and lo the crowd did rejoice

Happy holidays, everyone! Hope things went well and you got lots of chocolate lindt truffles. Mmm, lindt.

[livejournal.com profile] iamtinkerbean? Don't think I've forgotten about your j-squared present - it's mostly done and awaiting some finishing and then a beta. Same goes for you, [livejournal.com profile] talilov, although yours is a little more in the stage of 'oh crap, oh crap, where is this going?' than the other.

I like the idea of giving all my presents after Christmas, though, strange as that seems. I read something about how in Greece, there was a thing called callicantzaros (singular), which is a peculiar kind of vampire. Here, I will quote.

"The callicantzaros was related to the extraordinary sanctity ascribed to the Christian holy days at Christmas time. Children born during the week between Christmas and New Years (or Epiphany of Twelfth Night, the evening when the Three Wise Men are supposed to have arrived at Behlehem to present their gifts to the baby Jesus) were considered unlucky. They were described as feast-blasted and believed to be destined to become vampires after their death. The callicantzaros was also distinct among vampires in that its activities were limited to Christmas Day and the week or 12 days afterward. During the rest of the year it traveled in some vague netherworld. It was distinguished by its manic behaviour and extended fingernails...It would seize people with its talons and tear them to pieces. The callicantzaros had an effect upon everyday life, as any person born during the forbidden period was viewed with some degree of hostility. Parents would fear that these children would act out vampiric fantasies as they grew up and would harm their brothers and sisters."
Isn't that just damn cool? I love vampires, I love folklore. *fangirl gestures* Anyway, what I'm getting at here is, your presents are coming. Be patient with me, I am a silly girl and I never get things done on time.

Also, last night I had a really strange dream involving Dean. I don't remember how it began, but I do know that I was in the body of a little child - I'm pretty sure it was a boy. I had a pet, a large white ferret-type animal, and it was in my arms, cuddling up to me. It's fur was very soft, I remember that, and it was warmer even than the fire going in the fireplace next to me. My "parents" were in the kitchen at the table, and I was in the livingroom. I vividly recall thinking, in my little boy mind, that this ferret was so remarkable, the way it had saved its children by being warm and covering them with its own body.

Right as that thought is finished, Dean comes into the kitchen and says something to my parents, angry and low enough that I can't hear it. Then, he stalks over to me where I'm sitting on the couch-chair and says, "You know why I have to do this." I got really scared and clutched my pet closer because I didn't want him to take it, but he did take it, in one of his hands that looked giant next to mine on the white fur. He held it for a second, looking grim, and then turned and tossed it into the fireplace.

I didn't even have time to really be horrified or angry or upset, because then suddenly I was out of the boy's body, following Dean from above as he jogged out of my house and into the drive way. It took a second after his feet hit the gravel, but then he was looking up at the sky, looking up at the entire world falling away like it was made of cheap plastic. Everything is black and red like conte crayon, and Dean is shouting, "HIDE NOTHING!"

That's when I shot up in bed, heart pounding and out of breath. I stayed up for, like half an hour writing everything down and telling myself to remember. I swear, I have never had such an abstract, terrible dream before. I don't even know where it could have come from, I didn't eat anything strange. Opinions?
