13 Recs of Halloween (Pt I)

La la la, new mel-jay policy! Thirteen recs every week until Halloween! This week's SGA, next is SPN. Stay tuned!

Eighteenish by [livejournal.com profile] seperis (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
Absolutely chilling. I don't quite have any other word for it. The structure pulls you in, and the premise is...wow.
"I heard you. You told me you were coming."

No Puns, Please by [livejournal.com profile] 1ightning (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard) AU
John Sheppard can fly planes, calculate complicated equations, and seduce the average human in the space of an hour. Indeed, he had hoped for a long and bountiful life doing such things, right up until the point where all went very much awry. It’s not a happy story, though, so I won’t tell it. But in conclusion, John Sheppard herds sheep. No puns, please.

Failsafes by [livejournal.com profile] lunasky (PG-13, McKay/Sheppard)
Achingly, beautifully done - a different sort of take on time travel that really hits you in the gut, because god. John and Rodney are forced into every decision they've never wanted to have to make.
They were just two men. That’s all they were.

One Leg at a Time by [livejournal.com profile] lucitania (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
John Sheppard has learned a lot of things in his relatively short life, but there's only one thing he really knows, and that is that there are two kinds of people in this world: people who wear pants because they want to, and people who wear pants because they have to.

Zelenka's Still by [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna (PG-13, Gen)
Sheppard began singing, barely hitting the notes because he wanted to laugh so bad. It wasn't hard to switch the song around, though. All he had to do was change the name as he sang. "Teyla, you've got me on my knees..."

Rebuilding Babel by [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed (R, McKay/Sheppard)
Christ, this tore me apart in such an amazing way. Take away one of the most important things about Rodney McKay, and what are you left with?
The screen went black as the music changed movements, faded in on a cobblestone street, and then Charlie fucking Chaplin was making his way across the frame. The first ten minutes of the film were blurry and out of focus. Rodney blamed it on shitty DivX compression.

Streets in a World Underneath by [livejournal.com profile] ismenetruth (R, McKay/Sheppard)
Futurefic, Atlantis declassified. John reads a book and decides maybe it's time he stopped hiding.
DR. ZELENKA: Colonel Sheppard is a good man. He currently holds the Atlantis Chess Championship title, which I will win back soon, and has huge Star Trek collection he shares sometimes. Joss Whedon fan, too, the Colonel. You know Firefly, yes?
INTERVIEWER: No, I'm not familiar with it. Is it a book?
DR. ZELENKA: Television, the Colonel's favorite. Story about space cowboys.
INTERVIEWER: Space... cowboys?
DR. ZELENKA: Yes. Survivors of a future war, on frontier planets. It's very good.
INTERVIEWER: And Sheppard is a big fan?
DR. ZELENKA: Huge. He likes to quote it to the Marines and confuse them, sometimes. Rodney and I, we prefer math for soldier-baiting.

The Road to Nevada by [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard) AU
An incredibly thrilling, satisfying, long story with a gripping plot and fabulous characterization.
The day John Sheppard met Rodney McKay happened to be, by an astonishing coincidence, the day he fell out of the sky for the second time.

844,739 Ways to Eat a Hamburger by [livejournal.com profile] minervacat (R, Team Gen)
This is...the ultimate team fic. I didn't stop cackling the entire way through, and, really? This pretty much sums it up:

"Well, their ceremonial artifacts shouldn't look like urinals, that's all I'm saying. I can't help that I got the wrong idea. I don't see you stopping, Sheppard. I really have to go."

"I'm hungry," Ronon said.

"Have we reached our destination yet?" Teyla asked.

"I hate all three of you," John said, and then he almost drove off the road into the ditch beyond the shoulder, because Rodney had grabbed his arm and was shrieking frantically into John's ear. John yanked the steering wheel straight and said, "What, Rodney?"

"Waffle House," Rodney said, pointing at the sign for the upcoming exit.

Conjunction by [livejournal.com profile] pollit (R, McKay/Sheppard)
The third time that Rodney died in as many weeks, John decided enough was enough. As far as he was concerned anyone who disagreed—from the Air Force to Earth’s governing bodies in general—could all hop in a pool of Jell-O and fuck themselves.

Advantage by [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
Clever and sharp in all the right ways, while at the same time maintaining the plot and a perfectly balanced characterization.
"They made him your slave? Pity it wasn't someone prettier," Zelenka said.

"Tell me about it," Rodney said.

The Bottom Line by [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
Spanking, oh god, spanking. This is insane amounts of hot.
"I did not!" Rodney complains, struggling to get up, and John brings his hand down, hard. It connects with a smack! and Rodney makes a cut-off moan and lurches forward, hands scrabbling to find purchase in the dirt.

Ephemeral by [livejournal.com profile] purna (R, McKay/Sheppard)
Sex pollen, woohoo! Languorous and incredibly sweet, with an added hint of Ronon/Teyla for good measure.
Rodney laughs with him, and his eyes on John are dreamy and soft. Rodney's hands go wandering, and they're kissing again. The warm feeling is more intense, and the heady smell of the flowers and the sunlight make John's head swim.
