I know, I know, I just posted, BUT YOU GUYS. How are they so absolutely fabulous? I don't know how we're going to survive Shore Leave - especially if Kate wears another dress like that, homg. [livejournal.com profile] chickyoops has up 90+ photos of the Hewletts being magnificent over here, including a few of David that actually made me swoon. The stubble! The eyes! The jaw line! The crotch! Ahem. In the immortal words of [livejournal.com profile] darsynia:

darsy: OH GOD BASHFUL DAVID
darsy: fdksfjdslfdjsfldsjdslakdsmal
darsy: HE IS SCRATCHING HIS EAR

So, you know, be prepared for flail. Make sure you clear the area around you of all large pieces of furniture and non-fangirl entities.

And speaking of Shore Leave, which is in eleven days oh my fudge, does anyone have a...schedule or something? I haven't found anything on the website, but that might just be because I am mightily bad at focusing on one thing for more than three minutes at a time right now. I tried to shower earlier and wound up wandering around my room half-naked, having forgotten what I was doing. The excitement, it overwhelms!

ETA: wow, am I the only one who's gotten IMs from a spam sn on AIM slandering legomymalfoy?

  1. Voting for challenge two is going on over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_lims! Yes, I was crazy enough to take part this round. Go forth and vote!

  2. Love meme! I could definitely use some cheeriness. Like woah.

  3. I was originally rooting exclusively for the away team over at [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match, but it's really hard to hold onto that kind of bias when there are great stories coming from all sides. I'm still poking through them, so this isn't a complete list of awesome, but here are a few links to the ones I've really enjoyed so far:

    Infiltration
Summary: "I’m hopelessly in love with you," Rodney said, and rolled his eyes.
Hee, hee, heeeeee, so classically adorable and - boys!

    With Bones Like That
Summary: “I’m Dr Rodney McKay,” she said slowly. “We were at Berkeley together. You majored in mechanical engineering because you’re an idiot who wanted to go to war rather than use your brain for something worthwhile. I’m Rodney McKay with breasts, okay? It’s not that hard to grasp."
    Fja;goiawg YAY temporary genderswap! \o/

    Blink
Summary: I am going to tell you a story. About Dr. McKay and how he bought an eye from me, and how that one small act led to the strangest night in my entire life.
'Imaginative' doesn't even do this story justice.

    Good Neighbor Policy
Summary: His whole life, home had been something that happened to other people.
Incredibly sweet and perfect; definitely leaves you with the warmest, happiest glow in your belly.

    Never Going Home
Summary: John believes in miracles, in last minute saves, in the impossible. He's lived all of them. He also believes in small, random things that kill people; in the end you don't see coming, in the impossible-in-a-bad-way.
Even though it's written beautifully, major owie warning. I used up half a box of tissues.

    Near Things
Summary: "I am not risking the possibility of showing up at my own wedding with a hangover!"
Despite the summary, it's boys being boys all the way. So absolutely darling, god.

  • [livejournal.com profile] chickyoops just sent me this song - The Wave Pictures - Kiss Me - and, you guys, it alludes to my favorite Emily Dickenson poem ever and The Beatles almost simultaneously. Plus, it's totally funky. I don't even know what to do with myself. This is unprecedented.

  • The housing saga continues. Apparently my sister and her boyfriend are thinking of moving to Daytona together so he can teach at a flight school, which is just. Argh. And where does that leave me? I have no idea, but I suspect a box on the corner, stealing wireless from the library and skipping meals to pay for SGA box sets. Upside, I have successfully cleaned my room from top to bottom, and it almost looks presentable! I'm not excited to have a bunch of strangers running around in there while I'm not allowed in my own home for four hours, but what can you do. I've hidden all the racy stuff in a lock box, and that's really as good as it's gonna get, I guess.

  • Does anyone know anything about this place? As in: is it legit, does it have a good reputation, will I be completely fucked in the ear if I give them money, etc.? Some of the classes sound really interesting, and if they're good, it would be an awesome thing to do when I have some spare time.

  • A list of things wot have brought me cheer the past couple of days, in case any of you who need cheer also have missed them: forced team hugs!; adorable smooching visual!; languid grass kisses!; pig tail pulling!; aliens indirectly make them do it! And, okay, just the whole of [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch. It's like one giant Get Well Soon card - with porn! <3

    Pandaaaassss!!!
unamaga: (eargoggles)
So, Belmont Stakes today. That was awesome - or, wait, no. No it wasn't. Why does it have to happen in my town again, someone tell me? The bloody streets were clogged up and everyone's drunk and roaming around and puking in our bushes - again - and it's so gross out even venturing forth to find food had me sweating my clothes see-through. (And let's not even talk about the group of guys who stopped me on the corner when I was walking to the grocery store to leer at me who I almost punched.) Plus, it's been announced that our house is going on the market as of the 16th and my sister and I are going to find a place somewhere further into Queens and live with her on-again off-again boyfriend. Sigh.

Upside: I now own a proper yoga mat that's a pretty grass green color of which I firmly approve, and my toes are freshly painted. Yay.

Anyway, moving on: this tiny little manip was made a couple of months ago for [livejournal.com profile] cottontail's fic, A Leopard's Tale. You should all go read that first, tell [livejournal.com profile] cottontail how awesome it is, and then come look at this. Yes. :D

Rodney meets Rico. )
unamaga: (pretty when you're mine)
Wow, I was totally not expecting that kind of response from this morning's post! But, since it was so popular (Julie, your googlefu shall be known far and wide), I've morphed it into a ficathon.

[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon and [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve were way ahead of me and have already written an alarmingly sexy piece called Seven Days, which is so filthy-hot and fluid and tender that I'm still having trouble standing up. [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777, who I love in any number of ways, also brought the awesome in a commentfic earlier on that reduced me to goo.

Go on, read! And then head over to the main post for a little more inspiration. ;D

a list

unamaga: (shall i compare thee)
Things wot I have learned today:

  1. I am still so emotionally invested in Sam and Dean, even though I like to pretend I'm not. I haven't been able to change the songs on my iPod since I got my new computer, since it's the only copy I have of all the old stuff that was on Elphaba before she kicked it, and so I still have tons of the music I listened to religiously that meant Sam&Dean to me. While writing in the Library today, I had it on shuffle and Brothers On a Hotel Bed came on, and I started sniffling. I really hope the finale tears my heart out in a good way - the kind of way that IMToD did - and not in an "oh, Eric Kripke, how do you get funding" way. I'm insanely worried.

  2. [livejournal.com profile] schneestern thinks I should make out with [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 at Shore Leave.

  3. Rereading an author's entire body of work is very satisfying. The past three days have seen me going through [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002's website, and can I just say that if you're new around here and haven't stumbled upon it yet, her and [livejournal.com profile] yin_again wrote wristband porn. I always forget, and then it hits me over the head like a very, very attractive plank of wood.

  4. Hot, humid weather makes me want to listen to the Juno Soundtrack. It's so...sunshine-y. If that's a word. Which it isn't, but whatever. Here it is for you, in case you haven't yet experienced its awesome.

    Mediafire link / Sendspace link

  5. August Rush is an incredibly awesome movie; you should all see it if you can. Robin Williams was fabulous, mostly because I would never, ever expect that kind of role from him, and Kerri Russel keeps amazing me lately with how absolutely beautiful she's become. Not that she wasn't pretty before, but when you see her on the screen with her cello in August Rush, it's just - wow. Stunning. The entire main cast stunned me, actually. Freddie Highmore is so young to be playing such a big part, but he pulled it off and left me madly in love with August.

How To Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It by [livejournal.com profile] katjad (McKay/Sheppard, NC-17) ~14,427 words
There are no words to express, really, how much I adore this story. Marry or die fic! By katjad! It's delightful and in-character and awkward as hell in the sweetest way possible; Rodney's offensive without being obnoxious, John's so in over his head, and the end will leave you fondly going, "Oh, Zelenka."

"Gentlemen." Elizabeth's tone of voice was enough to make both of them stop talking and look at her, which in Rodney's case was really saying something. She sounded tired, or possibly like she wanted to hit somebody. Probably Rodney, if John had to guess—he just had that kind of effect on people. "Being on the next corridor over isn't going to cut it. The elder told Teyla you need to be in the same bed."

There was a moment of horrified silence.

"This is the part where you're completely and utterly kidding, right?" John said.

Rodney snapped his fingers. "Wait, I've got it: it's April Fool's on Earth, isn't it? It has to be. It's, yes, convert the months to—No, wait, it's only mid-March. You're not kidding, are you? This is—this is not good."

Go on, shoo!

Now, this is going to probably make me sound schizophrenic or something after the yay above, but I'm just goddamn fed up with it. So.

If you're tired of hearing me talk about SGA, move the hell on. Defriend me, find some new people to share in your current obsession, whatever. I had fun in Supernatural for a while, it was nice, but I think it's kind of glaringly obvious by now that SPN is not my main squeeze. I still watch it, I still adore it, and occasionally I'll read a fic if it's by an author I like. But I am going to keep talking about John Sheppard being a hotass and I am going to keep posting fic about how much he loves Rodney McKay. If that's not something you want clogging up your flist, don't complain to me about it. Just click the little button at the top of my userinfo and you'll be free as a bird.

This is not to say that any of you who like Supernatural should Get Gone - because I love having all of you on my flist, and a lot of you I'm friends with in a more solid way than just through a shared fandom - but those few who are extremely bothered by my journal's content as of late? Please don't feel obligated to stay.
unamaga: (funny valentine)
I'm determined that Helluary this year will not actually be Hell. Last year was a fluke! A really horrible, rotten, no good, sob-inducing fluke! So, as a kind of talisman against further fluke-age, I am going to pack as much awesome into this post as I possibly can. Are you ready? Okay!

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] schneestern wrote this sweet, sweet little ficlet called Suddenly Though, which is about John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd, and kissing. I think you should read it.

On top of being absolutely darling, it brings up an interesting question. There was a big to-do over at torchwood_fic about whether or not they should allow RPS - understandably, I guess, since they are a community for the fictional characters, but reading through the comments got me thinking. I know a lot of you have been on sort of the same track as me for a while, coming from Supernatural fandom over to Stargate Atlantis or veering on into Bandom, so you've been pretty well exposed.

What about the rest of you? Where exactly do you stand on RPS and when it's "appropriate"?
unamaga: (so not a morning person)
Oh dear fuck this took ages. Jules, I better get a really sexy kiss.

I'm separating the list into arbitrary categories that no one else will understand because it is easier for my poor brain to handle. Note: all of these fics are McShep unless otherwise marked, only some of them will have summaries with them, all full-AUs are labeled, asterisks are personal favorites, and, in advance, I apologize if any of the links lead you to a second part of a story; sometimes I bookmark them by accident, though I've tried to make sure all of these link to part one or the directory. If any links are wonky, or I've forgotten to label an AU, or any coding mysteriously develops kinks, let me know.

EDIT: All of these choices are highly subjective. This is by no means a full list of everything awesome in this fandom, and I don't claim that it is. These are just authors, fics, and artists that I consider greatest hits. If you disagree, please, go ahead and make your own! I'd love to see where we differ.

Ps, have you found anything cool vid-wise or fic-wise lately? I recently hit the end of the del.icio.us account I was stalking (zomg!), and now I'm plowing through the McKay/Sheppard tag for the entire network. It's hard work, yo.

They Physicist Bride by [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu (McKay/Sheppard, PG)
Now Rodney was the smartest person in the whole galaxy--on a good day, it was more like two--but he had no idea that when the flyboy said, "Whatever you say, Rodney," what he really meant was, "I love you."

The Holiday Season by [livejournal.com profile] out_there (McKay/Sheppard, PG)
He tells the bird that, and the bird gambols to a stop. It turns its head quickly, swinging John's body one way and then the other and then stops, with its head tilted. As a kid, John had watched chickens do that (the head tilt and freeze thing) and had wondered what they were listening to. Now he wonders if the worms were insulting them.

Slow and Steady by [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic (McKay/Sheppard)
This is possibly one of my favorite sweet fics in the SGA fandom. It reminds me so, so much of reading J2, although I couldn't tell you why. *happy sigh*
It was a tiny thing, only lasting a second and had it been anyone else, Rodney wouldn’t even have registered it, but the first time Sheppard touched him of his own volition, Rodney had to squash the urge to do a victory dance.

  • I have it! I know what I want to be for Halloween this year! )

  • The second installment of the Thirteen Recs of Halloween! These are a little late because there has been so much fic going on around these parts, but here you go: Thirteen SPN, RPS, and SGA recs )

  • I got to watch SPN 3x03 today with Jules. Everyone knows we shouldn't be let alone with each other for extended periods of time, thus this resulted in us talking about the Imapala and a Puddlejumper falling madly in love, then imagining all the various delightful ways people could have sex. I'm an OTP whore, though, so of course I ended up writing a ficlet about Sam and Dean being in love sparring while John Sheppard watches.

  • And So It Is by [livejournal.com profile] schneestern (McKay/Sheppard, R)
They fall into it easily enough. Kisses and caresses and little touches like it's always been a part of who they are.
Hi, so this pretty much made me cry. It's so sweetly, delicately beautiful, and the last line packs such a punch that I actually made sounds and had to pause before hitting 'comment' to kermit flail my arms around wildly.

  • From A Whispered Start by [livejournal.com profile] misskatieleigh (McKay/Sheppard, PG)
Rodney is very protective of John’s mind. He kind of wants it to stick around for a bit, preferably attached to John’s body.
This is adorable. I love the affectionate, subtle ode to John's hair. Really, there is no way that his hair should be able to do that all time. I love it so much. <3

  • Stranded at the Drive In by [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 (McKay/Sheppard, R)
John bundles Rodney into the GTO one Friday evening in early June. Rodney's teaching summer session and, two weeks in, is already threatening violence against his 'incompetent' students.
RODNEY. SINGS. LIONEL RICHIE'S GREATEST HITS. IN THE SHOWER. I will never, ever get over that. Oh, yeah, and also this is totally awesome and sweet and I love it to tiny bits and pieces. But Lionel Richie. Come on.

  • An awesome mix by [livejournal.com profile] chickypooh
I'm only just listening to this now, but it's so delightful and cute! V. v. good for when you're feeling happy and gooshy. (As I am right now.)

  • I know this wasn't FOR me - per say - but, dude. Dumbledore's gay is announced on my birthday? Damn right I'm claiming it. Thank you, JK Rowling, you absolute doll! It's just what I've always wanted, it's perfectly right! It's just what I've always wanted, a Christmas delight!

  • MOM: Remember a few years ago when that one - what country was that?
ME: What are you even talking about.
MOM: Anyway, they got that bad storm. Oh, oh, what was it called?
    ME: The storm?
MOM: I keep thinking tiramisu, but that can't be right.
    ME: ...A tsunami?
MOM: No, no. Maybe a honsoom?

  • Shampoo and conditioner that will make it mandatory for me to sing in the shower. No lie. When you have a shampoo that's coconut and lime, you do a little dance and burst into enthusiastic song! You put da lime in da coconut, then you put 'em in your hair. And, yes. I did actually start singing and dancing in the middle of the store. Shame, what?
Thank you to everyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday or comment on my birthday fic. You all are just...too much. I'm kind of overwhelmed by how awesome my flist is right now. GROUP HUG, YOU GUYS. C'MERE.

A lovely, aching AU written for the harlequin challege that branches off during the pilot. It's just - wow, beautiful.

In which John Sheppard is at turns confused, tenuously heterosexual, and very cuddly. Near-death brings it out in a guy.

  • Set Your Hope on Fire - a Harry Potter fanmix by [livejournal.com profile] fallslikeicarus. AD/GG pairing, with major, major spoilers for Deathly Hallows. I haven't really listened to it all yet, but the fact that it exists makes me happy in my belly.

  • A Mix Tape on exopolis, which is HYSTERICAL. Every single mix tape you made during the eighties or nineties with your little ridiculous tape recorder? This is it, but even better. And I quote: "Your eyes? Are like...two marbles? Made of diamonds from...Eurasia?" and, "When I think about you, I think about, um, frosted flakes and...trolls. Like, the really cute trolls...the naked ones? With the, the hair? Anyway."

Four Quarters | The Sea Swells | The Bellerophon Brothers | Bootleg: The Best of The Puddlejumpers | Tokyo Drift | Five Magazine Covers | La Familia

One of the most utterly consuming AUs I have ever read. I admit to maybe getting a little teary-eyed at the end (shhh, Sofie), but seriously. Seriously. This whole thing is incredible, so well put together and emotionally demanding and sometimes messed up but always beautiful. I can't recommend it highly enough, really. Happy sigh.

  • Just in case any of you haven't gloried in it properly, Tenacious D's "Fuck Her Gently" vid. It is so wonderful to randomly burst out with lines from it every once in a while: "That's fuckin' teamwork!" Oh, yeah. <3
