Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] schneestern wrote this sweet, sweet little ficlet called Suddenly Though, which is about John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd, and kissing. I think you should read it.

On top of being absolutely darling, it brings up an interesting question. There was a big to-do over at torchwood_fic about whether or not they should allow RPS - understandably, I guess, since they are a community for the fictional characters, but reading through the comments got me thinking. I know a lot of you have been on sort of the same track as me for a while, coming from Supernatural fandom over to Stargate Atlantis or veering on into Bandom, so you've been pretty well exposed.

What about the rest of you? Where exactly do you stand on RPS and when it's "appropriate"?

I've just finished reading a story. It was a good story, very well written - beautifully written in fact, with spot-on characterization that made me cry a little bit in the middle - but I got to the end, after all this emotional build up and plot and gorgeousness, and I was so unsatisfied that I actually don't know what to do with myself now. So just a few questions and then I'm gonna beg you for recs, because I feel wretched and I need happy, SATISFYING endings.

- What's the most important part of a story to you?

- Is it more pleasing to be constantly on your toes, or for there to be one or two truly surprising twists in an otherwise predictable plot?

- What makes a fic truly rewarding to read? What makes it something you want to reread?

'Kay, so now I want happy fic recs, wincest or j2. Someone? Who loves me a whole lot and is totally willing to be smished? Pleeeeaseee.

  • Have all of you seen this interview with Jensen and Jared, where Jensen does what he and Jared like to call the "Labored Inhale" face? HAVE YOU? Because, I. Where are the icons? Can someone make icons? THE LABORED INHALE FACE. And then the one he makes afterwards! OH JENSEN. And, and, Jared talks about someone grabbing his ass! This is SO OLD, I am very out of the loop on interviews, but. BOYS.

  • Some thinky-ness: are you more likely to find people you already know attractive, or complete strangers? I know, personally, that I have a horrible history of finding people I'm already friends with attractive and then being too close to them to actually do anything about it. I can't for the life of me understand casual sex, because it's just not how I work. Uh. Discuss?

  • I just yesterday found a folder of music in My Documents that I hadn't even realized was there, and now I'm at that beautiful stage where you listen to the playlist on iTunes over and over until you know all the words. So, I've scoured the intrawebs to look for where I got it, and I found the link: Fear No Darkness Promised Child. If you don't already have every mix [livejournal.com profile] bittersweet_art's done, you are not a whole human being and you should probably get right on that. Look at those gorgeous graphics! Listen to those fabulous songs! Boogie on down!

  • Who can actually wear a thumb ring and have it be comfortable? Like, show of hands? My sister bought me a Celtic knot ring and I have it on my thumb and it looks so PRETTY, but my circulation - it suffers.

An original drabblet that, um, popped out of nowhere a while ago. I just...what. No idea. 239 words, W for weird.

ExpandThere’s a hole in the back yard, deep and wide. The black of it scares you at night, but you dug it and you know how far down it goes, so you close your eyes and see patches of grass pasted over the gouge, glued there like construction paper. Soon, you think, and it helps. )

Thinky Discussion Questions:
  1. What's your take on Internet Romance: is it possible, is it not? Are there special circumstances that can make it more viable to you personally? Is there a certain point at which you think it has to translate into a 'RL' relationship in order for it not to fall apart?

  2. Favorite crack!fic trope? Ex: Wings, animal transformation, genderswap, bodyswap, etc. Recommend one if you can!

  3. What do you look for in a fic? Inventive premise, humor, angst, certain characterization, wordcount? And, inversely, what turns you off something the fastest?

Three posts in one day, woo! \o/

  • My internet is sucking like Sam right now. Sorry, kids I was talking to on AIM, I do love you!! :(

  • This icon makes me die a little. In my pants. Oh, Jenny, how you be so hotass?

  • I'm watching the history of sex on The History Channel right now and it is awesome, awesome, awesome. I adore Ancient Rome to a ridiculous degree. I kind of wish there were more stable things to do with a Classics degree besides teach, because I would be all over that. Anyone else with me on this? Am I just a complete geek?

  • [livejournal.com profile] schneestern? I'm so sorry it's taking me forever to get back to you about the cheese. We will finish this thread, I promise!

  • So, yeah. What's your favorite ancient civilization? This is also a really geekish thing, but indulge me. Do you like Rome, Greece, Egypt, China, India, etc? What? And, well, of course explaining why would be nice, too. And, while we're at it, what's your take on Western vs. Eastern thought in regards to religion, women, social responsibility, and class? I'm curious.

  • I am so grateful for every comment I get that sometimes I squeal just at the sight of my inbox. Seriously, you all are pretty damn fabulous. Just. *pokes internet* Curses.

  • No, really. No one else has a thing for snakes? Really?
