I've just finished reading a story. It was a good story, very well written - beautifully written in fact, with spot-on characterization that made me cry a little bit in the middle - but I got to the end, after all this emotional build up and plot and gorgeousness, and I was so unsatisfied that I actually don't know what to do with myself now. So just a few questions and then I'm gonna beg you for recs, because I feel wretched and I need happy, SATISFYING endings.

- What's the most important part of a story to you?

- Is it more pleasing to be constantly on your toes, or for there to be one or two truly surprising twists in an otherwise predictable plot?

- What makes a fic truly rewarding to read? What makes it something you want to reread?

'Kay, so now I want happy fic recs, wincest or j2. Someone? Who loves me a whole lot and is totally willing to be smished? Pleeeeaseee.

I have read a few like that lately. :(

- the ending. It's gotta leave me feeling absolutely awesome and satisfied, otherwise I end up with a niggling unhappy feeling in my tummy.

- I like both. I can't really choose because different things work in different stories.

- A fic which has me feeling good for most of it - with a few angsty moments to spice it up - and some fantastic plot. With a HAPPY ENDING. :D The happy ending is PARAMOUNT.

HMM. I wrote the schmoopiest story ever the other day. Stages (http://community.livejournal.com/wheeeeefic/2475.html). I wrote it for a friend but also for myself cause I needed some 100% schmoop + excessively happy ending to cheer myself up. :D

And I'd wager you've read them already, but [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez's and [livejournal.com profile] marishna's Big Bang fics left me feeling full of glee and warmth. :)

I like the middle. Because everything's a journey or an adventure, and if so, I hate the start because it's building up, I hate the end cos it's all over and you can't read it anymore, so I like the middle when you know you've got lots still to go. That's why I'm such a slow reader. And why I like the second Lord of the Rings the best :0P And why I like films that don't go anywhere much, like The Mother and Girl With a Pearl Earring.

I'm a funny old fruit, sometimes...

i've read a few like that

and you know, it hurts, because you invest yourself into the world the writer makes and when they're GOOD its a strong deep emotional investment, and it really does hurt to get yanked out by an ending that dumps you out with no cushion. i read a deathfic by a writer who is incredibly good and it had no real warning, and i'm still upset, because somehow i wanted to be braced for it and not blindsided entirely...i mean...the fiction in spn is so so so incredibly good, some of it, its incandescent, and thrilling, and takes you places the show doesnt even get to and can't and i'm not just talking slash here either. but huh...as far as good stuff that's gonna have a happy ending...well...life for the winchesters tends to be bittersweet even at its best...if you're into rps there's something called seek that just got posted here http://indysaur.livejournal.com/11691.html?view=613803#t613803
