happy day!

unamaga: (TOO MUCH CUTE)
This morning was kind of emotional rollercoaster: We finally found a Christmas tree! I left my purse in Subway. I can breathe through my nose again! I nearly asphyxiated on cheerios and only the point of the table saved me. However, there are some things right now which are giving me mighty large happy fuzzies in my stomach - let me enumerate them for you!

 1. [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777, [livejournal.com profile] chopchica, and [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1. Outpouring of love for these people and their shiny emails and heart-shaped IMs.

 2. New journal layout, complete with John and Rodney standing guard against the inevitable evils of fandom. I find them very comforting, and John's ridiculous hair makes my heart swell with ridiculous joy.

 3. Whichever of you nominated a bunch of my stuff for the McShep Awards! *spazz of delight and disbelief* I even get a snazzy banner with kissing on it. You are all amazing and lovely and I want to pull you all into a massive hug so awesome you will spontaneously sparkle. Yeah, I said it.

 4. Bread-making. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, that is still really funny.

Fic posting is now open for the McShep Happyfic Challenge!

Once you've posted your story at your own journal, comment to this entry with a link using the template below so that we can add you to the master list we'll be posting to the noticeboard in a few days. You have until November 5th at noon your own time to get your fic posted and linked. After that, we'll be closing the fest down with a big ol' post of glory and nothing else will be included, but you're more than welcome to keep posting happy fic until the end of time as far as we're concerned! And if you have any questions, concerns, problems, feel free to ask them right here in the comments. Bring on the fic!! :D

Title: The title of your fic here
Author: However you want to be credited
Rating: G through NC-17
Summary: Can be a few lines from the fic or a synopsis - please, nothing too epic, just a couple of sentences.

The Masterlist - updating as we go along )

Closed!
unamaga: (*mfeo*)
Guys, it felt like the day would never come. The weeks - if not months - have dragged on eternally, and we're all so ready for this to be over, so ready to be free...oh, wait, that's next Tuesday.

Because, actually, this time around, I'm talking about HAPPYFEST! Yes, that's right, tomorrow is the magic day! I'm so excited, aren't you! It might even tide me over until Tuesday (and keep me from having a nervous breakdown)!

Because I'm on the East Coast and we are impatient, we're declaring Happyfest open for business at midnight, New York time. As soon as midnight hits there, no matter where you are, you can post! I'll be putting up a collection post right around then, and once you post your story in your journal, comment there with a link and we'll add it to the masterlist!

A note for those freaking out: a bunch of people have been asking us if they can have a tiny extension. We're going to extend the posting deadline through noon on Wednesday (I'm sure you can guess why). If you post through that time period, we'll link you in the masterlist and then make a noticeboard post with the whole list after it's over. If you can't make it by Wed morning, you won't be in the masterlist, but you should still post your fic anyway - happy fic never goes out of style!

WOO HAPPY FEST! \o/

unamaga: (heaven to me)
Hi, all! Remember that super awesome McShep Happyfest a bunch of you signed up for? Yep, that one. This is your friendly October reminder post, letting you know you have a little over three weeks until the November 1st posting date. Don't freak out, you can totally do this! We have confidence! And to encourage you, we're opening this post up for recs, cheerleading, idea-bouncing, and all that fun fest stuff. More about that at the end, though; first, [livejournal.com profile] chopchica and I have each come up with our top five fest-compliant fics to give you some inspiration and/or a reason to procrastinate. Fridays are made for procrastinating, after all!

In which we ramble lovingly. )

Now. About that fun fest stuff. We're hoping to turn this post into a kind of fest in its own right. Writers are encouraged post snippets or "OH GOD I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING"s so that everyone else can bring out their pom poms and cheer them on. Happy fic recs, whether they be fest-compliant or not, are welcomed with open armed delight. And if you're having trouble finding a beta or you need someone to hold your hand, there are probably plenty of volunteers floating around!

And lastly: pimp this if you can! We don't know how all the participants got to us the first time around, but we'd like everyone to see the reminder. Here are two smaller buttons if you want them, feel free to hotlink. :D
unamaga: (you i love it's you)
I present to you a McShep photo essay in six parts. May it bring you grate lulz.

Part One: The Come On )
unamaga: (*mfeo*)
I continue to fail at social interaction and, in fact, life! Big surprise! Sorry to anyone I was awkward in the general direction of today. Hopefully this bout of ridiculousness will pass soon, or else I might be forced to suffocate myself with pie. It would make for an interesting obituary, at least, right? Yeah.

In lieu of anything more interesting to post about, here's the next piece for my [livejournal.com profile] art_bingo card, filling in the "haunted house" square. It sort of turned into a haunted hotel, but I figure that's about the same thing. Resources here, and thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] villainny for persevering in the face of my frustration towards Rodney's face - at this point, I think I might owe her at least a third of my soul for services rendered. Considering [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 owns another third, and [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne and [livejournal.com profile] chopchica seem to have an unnatural influence on the remains, I'm not sure where that leaves me. McShepping until my hands fall off?

True love never lives happily ever after - true love has no ending. )
unamaga: (a ray of adorable sunshine)
This is unprecedented for eleven o'clock on a Saturday morning. I've already been up for a ridiculous number of hours, which is so very not like me, eaten pizza for breakfast (delicious and nutritious!) and fumbled my way through the first few hundred words of my happy fic. What's going on? I don't know. Possibly I've slipped into an alternate dimension. To combat the weirdness, I'm reposting a small comment ficlet written yesterday for [livejournal.com profile] melloniel, whose battle with her recliner was inspiring.

Untitled Chair Ficlet
McKay/Sheppard, R ~620 words

The department store was vast and baffling, and the two of them had spent the better part of that morning and afternoon blindly stumbling from one section to another, tossing whisks and shower curtains into their overflowing cart and arguing over the shade of blue the area rug for the front room should be. )

Annnd, here's a small bunch of icons, mostly of people making amusing or shocked faces. Because that's so how I roll. Twenty eight all together: eighteen John, four Rodney/David, four Teyla, one Elizabeth, one McShep.

Mmmm, faces )

In other news! I've decided to go on a movie binge this weekend, try to catch up on all the culture I missed growing up in the nineties. So far I've watched Singin' in the Rain and Who Framed Roger Rabbit - as, um, I'm sure you all noticed yesterday - and right now I'm twenty minutes into The Maltese Falcon. What else should be on my list, do you think?

*hoardes popcorn and blankets*

Welcome to the signups for happyfest! We're your mods, [livejournal.com profile] unamaga and [livejournal.com profile] chopchica!

What is happyfest, you may ask? Why, it's a fest for long and happy fic, set in the canon SGA universe! We've noticed that a lot of the long and plotty fics written in the last three years have either been chock full of angst, or AUs, and we started wondering how to get ourselves some long and happy fic - fic where there are romps and adventures, and hopefully some really, really hot sex.

Then it occurred to us; make other people write it for us! [livejournal.com profile] eleveninches put a poll in the field asking if anybody would even sign up, and the answer was yes! Now here we are!

So, want to write a long happyfic? This is what we're looking for. )
unamaga: (TOO MUCH CUTE)
If you haven't popped over to [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's birthday celebration at [livejournal.com profile] catenip, you're missing out, dudes. As well as some truly adorable and sweet presents involving boys, the outpouring of love is just heartwarming. Aw, fandom. <333 I've left my own little contribution here:

*smooch*
unamaga: (snugglepuss)
After having so little to say for such a long time, it's a little weird to be posting things daily again. *explodes into action all over lj!* Anyway.

This fanmix is Exhibit B in the case for John and Rodney running away together to live in a cozy bungalow with a big backyard less than a quarter mile away from the beach where they will collect stray cats in between bouts of incredible sex and - just generally be happy forever and ever, the end. Exhibits C and D to follow. This is what you people get for not discouraging my schmoop addiction.

Title: Be Cool
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: R
Wordcount: ~1,100 words
Notes: A little fluff for [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne and [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, who had stinky days. Sorry for being massively slow! I hope this cheers you up a little. Huge gooshy love to [livejournal.com profile] villainny for the beta. <3

Ten minutes in, John’s already lost interest in the movie, busy wondering if it would be way too weird and high school to inch his feet under the hem of Rodney’s jeans, press them against warm skin and just claim he’s cold. Rodney would probably tell him to go get some socks. )
unamaga: (john sheppard)
Um, so, this latest bit of lunacy has a story behind it, I promise. See, I grabbed [livejournal.com profile] unaccompanied_g for artword this month, and we were emailing back and forth with story/art links - all very innocent - and then suddenly John was wearing lederhosen in my inbox and I was sputtering iced tea all over myself. Obviously I had to fight back. And 'fighting back' in my book apparently means giving Rodney braids. Officially, we blame too much sugar and not enough sleep, but unofficially - yeah, I'm not sure either.

[livejournal.com profile] unaccompanied_g: Oh my god. Oh my GOD. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. *TEAR* (...He looks so WISTFUL.)
[livejournal.com profile] unamaga: HE WANTS TO KNOW WHERE HIS LITTLE JAUNTY CAP IS.
[livejournal.com profile] unaccompanied_g: HE IS SO SAD WITHOUT IT.
[livejournal.com profile] unamaga: ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, HIS BOOBS LOOK AWESOME.

The product of our five o'clock in the morning love. You have been warned. )
unamaga: (nothing hurts)
Sometimes Julie and I like to play around in AIM and write snippets of fic that follow a weird, convoluted, entirely self-indulgent plot line in our heads. We sat down at eight pm last night and wrote until six am this morning because it was fun and apparently that churned out over 12,000 words. With barely any sex. What. WHAT. This is why we are writing a big bang together next summer, homg. And then she showed me a wet!team promo pic - which, despite being insanely photoshopped, happily involves a thigh holster.

Very much not of the worksafe )

Apparently I'm in a mood? As per tradition, first two prompts get ficlets. :D
unamaga: (oh *baby*)
I was thinking about John and Rodney's epic gay space love while in the shower this morning, as you do, and wondering why they're so appealing as a ship to such a huge quantity of people. For me, a big part of it is how deep their friendship goes in canon, how a lifetime's worth of loneliness just peels away like so much paint once they find that place with each other and their Lantean family where they can just be themselves - dorky or paranoid or arrogant or frightened or whatever 'themselves' might be at any given moment - and how simple it would be for them to take that friendship and make something more out of it.

But what is it for you (if you ship them) that makes them so appealing to you personally? You know, besides the obvious.

Kink: Rough Sex (card here)
Wordcount: ~650 words
Notes: Tiny snipplet written for [livejournal.com profile] kink_bingo that's, um, probably not [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne-friendly. Thank you to my [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1, who encouraged me and told me to just post it.

They don’t talk for a week. Rodney starts and finishes dozens of conversations just inside his head where no one can hear, imagines John saying inane, useless things like, ''Pass the salt.'' )

Title: Glad to the Brink of Fear
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: G
Notes: For this month's [livejournal.com profile] artword challenge, Reversed. My lovely partner, [livejournal.com profile] chandri, has written an incredibly sweet story to accompany this, which you can find here, and it's so adorable I had to flutter my hands at the end in public. Also, massive, huge love to [livejournal.com profile] chopchica for helpful suggestions like, "John's arm is as big as a leg. You should change that." ♥, sweetie. Stock is, as always, from veer.

John’s not quite awake yet, but he’s aware of some things. The give of the mattress underneath his shoulder. The body-warmed air between the sheets. )
