What is happyfest, you may ask? Why, it's a fest for long and happy fic, set in the canon SGA universe! We've noticed that a lot of the long and plotty fics written in the last three years have either been chock full of angst, or AUs, and we started wondering how to get ourselves some long and happy fic - fic where there are romps and adventures, and hopefully some really, really hot sex.
Then it occurred to us; make other people write it for us! eleveninches put a poll in the field asking if anybody would even sign up, and the answer was yes! Now here we are!
So, want to write a long happyfic? This is what we're looking for:
First off, the fic has to be a minimum of 7,500 words. Yes, it's a really big minimum wordcount. But that's kind of the point here; we don't want happy shorts - there are tons of those already. We want long and happy fics. In fact, feel free to go over the minimum. Feel free to go over by a lot.
Second, this fic has to be happy and fun. Happy does not mean that John and/or Rodney are miserable for 99% of the story and get a last minute happy ending. It means that the majority of the fic is happy. There can be serious tones, of course - happy doesn't always have to equal crack - but this is not the place for angst-overload stories. No deathfic, no rapefic, no torture fic, no emo misery.
And no AUs. AUs are extremely awesome and we both love them madly, but what we're looking for here is fics within SGA canon (and no, this does not includes fics set in canon SGA alternate realities. Those also rock but this isn't the place).
That's it for guidelines! Anything happy set within SGA canon and over 7,500 words is fair game! Write fic set at any point during the show, or anywhere in the future! Write fic with a plot! Write fic with no plot! Write fic where they defeat the Wraith or where DADT is revoked or where they go on missions and have wacky adventures or get puppies or get married or marry puppies! The options are limitless!
There's no penalty for signing up and not finishing. We're well aware that this is a large wordcount and that life and writer's block can get in the way. This isn't an exchange, just a fest, and nobody is depending on your story, so please don't feel any pressure! I promise we won't even give you disappointed looks! With that kind of guarantee, isn't it worth signing up and giving it a try?
We're opening signups right now in the comments to this post and keeping them open until we wake up on Wed morning. The deadline and posting date is November 1st. This gives you almost two months to write your fic. All you have to do to sign up is just comment and let us know you want to write a happyfic! That's it! Isn't that easy? If you have any questions or just generally want to squeal with glee, this is also the place to do it! Also, pimp this! Pimp it far and wide!

ETA: cat_latin asked a very good question. So...where are we posting these at deadline? This is more of a ficathon than a comm challenge, so on the due date, you'll be posting in your own journal and leaving a link to it in the entry we'll make for the round-up of all the submissions. You don't have to friend unamaga or chopchica to keep up on everything if you don't want to, as we'll be sure to crosspost in sga_noticeboard the day before with a link to the entry. In addition, we'll probably be making a few reminder posts between now and November 1st.

Okay, that sold me, because the odds are enormous that I won't be able to write a word, let alone finish. But if there's no penalty, then I promise to try.
Also, you know how I love to set my stories in the future? I don't think of them as AUs; I just extrapolate canon. Is that okay? Or must the story be set within seasons 1-5?
I can't write my way out of a wet thesaurus, but the idea of this fest fills me with so much glee I'm wigglin' with it! \XD/ *jumps in cheerleader stands*
I shall attempt this, although, uh. I probably won't finish. NO, OKAY, HAPPYFIC FEST, HAPPY THOUGHTS, DAMMIT. THERE WILL BE FIC, AND IT WILL HAVE PUPPIES AND KITTENS AND RAINBOWS. AND ALSO SEX. SEX IS HAPPY.
I wanted to write something like that once, where John and Rodney escalate pranks and dares for years and then they start bringing it into the sex. Sometimes I really miss writing. BUT NOW I CAN LOOK FORWARD TO YOURS!
