I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] aesc for the Eight Days of Happy meme an age ago. I refuse to fail at it this time! *resolve face*

Day One

I uploaded this for Aitches the other day and realized that everyone who might be having a rough day or a rough week or a rough year should be in possession of this movie. It's the ultimate comfort movie, long and fun and gorgeous and easy to curl up around in the afternoon while you nosh on a cookie. It's not made just for kids, it's made for everyone, and believe me when I say you will finish this movie and feel warm.

Note: The file size might seem a little bit daunting, but that's because you can watch in either Japanese or an English dub. Rejoin with HJ-split and enjoy. :D

I imagine this meme has already made the rounds, so I'm not tagging anyone, but if you'd like to do this, consider yourself poked. Oh! And another note: I suddenly have a Dreamwidth account, thanks to my lovely [livejournal.com profile] villainny! Unsurprisingly, I'm unamaga over there too - so original! still apparently hard to spell! Come friend me if you'd like; I'm still getting used to all the complications of having a "circle" instead of friends, and only being allowed six userpics after having over a hundred does lead me to make sad duck faces, but it's pretty nice over there.
unamaga: (*smooch*)

Happy Valentine's Day, flist! I know not everyone cares, but I love any excuse to smother people with hugs and post pictures of adorable sleepy animals. *opens arms* C'mere, you.
unamaga: (just so white and nerdy)
I've gotten a smattering of holiday cards already, and let me just say, there is nothing quite as awesome as trudging downstairs to get the mail, half-awake, and seeing an envelope addressed to Mel Sparklepants. I mean, that's just fun. So, huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] sorachsilver, [livejournal.com profile] gaffsie (that is kind of the cutest John and Rodney drawing ever), [livejournal.com profile] sky_flakes, [livejournal.com profile] fawkesielady_ed, and [livejournal.com profile] pennyplainknits (Hogswatch FTW). As a bonus, my father is ragingly jealous. "Why don't I get mail from Germany?" he whines every time he passes them. \o/

In other news, I have a few fictional bones to pick.

  • Writing het sex does not automatically grant you the right to use terrifying metaphors like 'scramble her eggs'. If a man ever even mentioned scrambling my eggs in a joking manner, I would knee him in the groin.

  • If, metaphorically, RayK and Fraser are having gay sex and Fraser decides to suck on Ray's nipples, it is not acceptable to describe anything on Ray's body as a tit. Ray Kowalski is so skinny he's freaking concave. There are no tits. Do not do this. I will cry.

  • Rodney McKay does not speak like Bill S. Preston Esquire. Sputtering? A-ok. Post-coital blithering? That's pretty much a given. "Totally radical, dude, can I bum a ride?" No. Please acquire an episode or a brain. Either will do.

Ahhh. I feel much better now. *places cucumber slices over eyes*

happy day!

unamaga: (TOO MUCH CUTE)
This morning was kind of emotional rollercoaster: We finally found a Christmas tree! I left my purse in Subway. I can breathe through my nose again! I nearly asphyxiated on cheerios and only the point of the table saved me. However, there are some things right now which are giving me mighty large happy fuzzies in my stomach - let me enumerate them for you!

  1. [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777, [livejournal.com profile] chopchica, and [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1. Outpouring of love for these people and their shiny emails and heart-shaped IMs.

  2. New journal layout, complete with John and Rodney standing guard against the inevitable evils of fandom. I find them very comforting, and John's ridiculous hair makes my heart swell with ridiculous joy.

  3. Whichever of you nominated a bunch of my stuff for the McShep Awards! *spazz of delight and disbelief* I even get a snazzy banner with kissing on it. You are all amazing and lovely and I want to pull you all into a massive hug so awesome you will spontaneously sparkle. Yeah, I said it.

  4. Bread-making. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, that is still really funny.
unamaga: (love me lately)
Dear fandom,

Love,
Mel
unamaga: (lick here pls)
My headset was summarily destroyed the other day by a rampaging beast (aka me during a frantic search for my camera card) which is hugely upsetting since I was planning on recording a hello message for you all and I can't for the life of me figure out how to work the voice post whosamajigs. Alas, you've been spared my hilariously idiotic ramblings about David Hewlett and dresses and cookies - not that the three are related in any way - for another week. Rest easy while you can because soon your time will come and, lo, it will be epic. Seriously, just ask [livejournal.com profile] schneestern. The first time we talked on Skype together I ended up pontificating on the significance of ladybug stickers for ten minutes. I don't even know how. Something about the number of spots being a metaphor for Love Sweet Love? Yeah.

Top three songs making Mel happy at the moment:
1. [Patrick Wolf - Careless Talk] Like me reccing a Patrick Wolf song is a huge surprise. But, okay, this is so adorable and jazzy and so unlike his normal songs, and I maybe really want him to be my boyfriend. Don't judge me.
2. [Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger! - Insert Disco Beat Here] Courtesy the lovely [livejournal.com profile] chickyoops. Definitely not for everyone, but it's funky and hilarious and weird and I can barely understand a word the singer's saying, which means that of course it's right up my alley. Also, hello, their name.
3. [Beirut - Postcards From Italy] The perfect summer song, all sweetness and nostalgia and light, like the memory of sun warming your toes on a balmy afternoon.

Now you! What's making you happy today, flist? *group smoosh*

(PS, Don't let any of the actual content fool you, this is totally a gratuitous icon post. Nghjfaoigm JFlans, how are you so sexass. Please to be never stopping. Do it for us, the fans.)
unamaga: (mr. bracket face)
First point: so many festivals of joy! [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius is having a tiny 'What Rodney and John are doing today' fest over here which I have happily committed fic for, [livejournal.com profile] yin_again is hosting a 'secret touch' fest here, and [livejournal.com profile] melagan is having a 'That Thing We Don't Talk or Hug About Meme' over here, which is great fun. *punches you in the arm fondly*

Second point: [livejournal.com profile] schneestern and I were chatting over skype today and somehow - I think maybe all of her giggling acted like alcohol - she convinced me that what the world really needs is a fic about John and Rodney and Teyla and Ronon meeting in Kindergarten, and John and Rodney being darling and innocent and in puppy love, shyly exchanging little Spiderman valentines with sticky fingerprints on them, and Rodney coming to school dressed as a tinfoil-covered astronaut for Halloween and getting made fun of and Ronon and Teyla and John jumping to his defense! And. Yeah. So maybe I squeaked a bit when we were talking about it, but you can't prove anything.

Really, though, the main point of this post is teddy bears.

unamaga: (city of the ancients)
While recovering from my brush with Joe Flanigan-induced death, I had a thought: most of you I barely know anything about, even fannishly. This thought saddened me. So! Copy and paste if you'd like (it's conveniently coded!), or feel free to go all crazy and build me a time line. Extra points awarded for squiggly fonts.

1. What was your first brush with fandom - TV, movie, book, anime, etc.? How old were you?

2. How did you find fandom (as an internet entity)?

3. Was livejournal your first fannish home? If not, how were you involved?

4. How many fandoms have you been in since your first? If you can, list them.

5. If you participate in fandom actively (aka, you aren't a lurker), what's your role? Author, artist, beta, commenter, enabler, etc.

6. If you're a slasher, what was your first slash pairing and why? Did you find slash first?

Ahaha, this sounds like a sex questionnaire, woops. (ETA: um, sorry about that coding glitch! Fixed now.) I'll start! )
unamaga: (allllright)
Um, remember that whole hair fic thing I did a while back? Tangle? Well apparently [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 loves me so much she made it into a PODFIC. How cool is she, guys? I don't think I can deal with this level of excitement all the time, homg. First the ice skating pile up and now podfic! Jeeze!

Go download the fic and love on Julie HERE.
unamaga: (zomgdhew)
Everyone is sad lately! What is going on, world? I mean, I know Saturn's retrograde, but unless you're like me and you have Saturn in Virgo in your birth chart, it shouldn't be such a big deal! Let us focus on the good before my internet decides to poop out again and leave me flailing like a headless chicken for hours upon hours.

  1. There is an adorable, shivering tiger cub on my television screen. It has little baby sisters and brothers and it is squeaking - SQUEAKING! - as it sucks on its bottle. A visual:

  2. This seal pup is very happy to see you! You should be happy too or else he will frown. :(

  3. Musics! I'm sure I've probably put some of these up before, but whatever, you should get a second chance to download them in case you were insane and didn't the first time around.
Eisley - A Sight to Behold
    Patrick Wolf - Augustine
Supreme Beings of Leisure - Last Girl on Earth
    Feist - Mushaboom
The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
Pink Martini - Hang On Little Tomato
Fiona Apple - Better Version of Me
Andrew Bird - Dear Old Greenland
Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet
    Regina Spektor - Genius

So. You know. Feel better and all, guys. And please inform me if the postal system has eaten my holiday cards again this year. *group hug*
unamaga: (can kill you with my CUTE)
Ahh, it is early yet, but I do believe the wintertime ennui is upon us. Break out your light boxes and potassium-rich food products, guys! I love the snow and the cold way more than the stifling, sticky heat of summer, but the whole sun going down early, rising early thing? Yeah, no. Not really my favorite part of the season.

Speaking of, is it too early to ask you all for Christmas lists? It totally is, isn't it. I'm sorry, I never wanted to be the CVS of your flist, decking the halls cheerfully in the middle of August. No, seriously, have you been to CVS lately? Because the ones near me have out their dancing Santas already. My head hurts when I see them.

Oh, that reminds me. Have any of you been over to www.pasta.com? Because, oh my dear god, worst rendition of the Macarena ever. I think I nearly ruptured a lung trying to decide if I should burst into hysterical laughter or cry for my scarred soul.

Dale a tu cuerpo alegria Macarena, que tu cuerpo es pa' darle alegria y cosa buena, dale a tu cuerpo alegria Macarena, eeeeeeh Macarena!

That's right. You better believe I'm doing the dance, too.

Song of the week!

Dedicated to YOU
unamaga: (trembly. lower. lip. (homg))
Point the first: this icon, guys, omg. Look at Sam's mouth, LOOK. He is so prettie, I want to pet him and maybe also kiss him. A lot. With tongue.

Point the second: I have four - or five? ahgg - spider bites all down my right arm, starting at my neck and meandering along until my wrist. This is extraordinarily displeasing, because they itch worse than sand flea bites and the calamine lotion is only good for ten minutes of relief per application. I feel a bit like Rodney because I've complained to anyone who'll listen, but, dude. Spider.

Point the third: I have a twitter account! Come on and join in the fun, because there is NO SHAME in spamming on twitter, I have learned. You just updated forty minutes ago? So what! Do it again. It's freeing. Almost like wearing no pants. \o/

Point the fourth: you guys know I adore you, but just in case some of you need that extra bit of jungle lovin', here are the answers to the love meme from a few entries back.

It's a Love Fest! )

unamaga: (their love is so sluggish)
Who wants a little lovin'?

I know I'm late to the bandwagon, but: comment here and I'll tell you - possibly with footnotes - why I think you're awesome. And if we don't know each other that well yet, take this as an invitation to step up and say hi so we can get acquainted. I'm not really as scary as some people seem to think I am, promise!
unamaga: (spring is here!)
Happy (LATE) Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] clex_monkie89 and [livejournal.com profile] morgaine22!!! I am stinky and didn't prepare properly, but feel free to prompt me or keep this favor under your belt to throw at me later! *affectionate smishes*

Speaking of my stinkiness, how are you all? I have been a dreadful flister recently.Tell me your woes and joys! Catch me up on your doings! Look, I even have brownies for you to eat while you talk. :D

unamaga: (run for it)
Ah, holiday gatherings.

Those special times of year when my relatives get together and torture each other with banal talk about hair, flatulence, cookies, what flavor dental floss they use, and how fat someone at the table is getting. Not only was the food disgusting, so was the company. I have a hole in my tongue from biting it all afternoon. The highlight of the time with my family? My mother spilling chocolate cake down her white shirt-front. Awesome.

At least they only tried to force alcohol on me once, so I would 'loosen up' and stop being such a 'bitch'. Right, because you really want alcohol in me - the one with the Irish temper - when I'm on my period and stuck at a table eating the worst lamb I have ever tasted with some of my least favorite people in the world.

Hi. How was your day?

Sorry I haven't gotten to comments yet, but I'll go around in the morning when I'm in a less stab-it-stab-it mood. I love you guys, though! Thanks for not being stupid and prone to whispering about me as soon as I leave a comment thread. *group smish*

ps, sofie? you did make the day so much better. thanks for that, honey.

omg shoes

unamaga: (see you shiver)
  1. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH ) That is probably the best thing I have ever seen in the history of my life. Ever.

  2. So, um, I appear to be a really bad lj friend right now. I've only barely skimmed my flist in the past few days. I'm sorry! If there's anything I need to see, please, please point me. In that vein, you should all go over here and volunteer your ficcish services! Fight snow! With pretty boys! Make people feel better! *general smish*

  3. On a somewhat related note, I might be a little slow in getting back to comments for the next little while. So, y'know, feel free to just not comment on my posts if that bothers you, I won't mind.

  4. Some love letters )

  5. Happy St. Patrick's Day, to those who are celebrating! Crack fic coming along later! *does a jig off to bed*
unamaga: (long long time of love)
Hi guys, I missed you!!!

I hope the internet hasn't exploded since I went away! How are you? Tell me everything! I know [livejournal.com profile] morgaine22 randomly decided to take a trip to Vancouver, but what else is going on? I hear Jensen was on Jimmy Kimmel last night or something - which, dudes, that's important! At least YouTube is a working miracle. That brings me comfort. How cute/smokin' hot was he?!

So, hiatus was good, if you wanted to know. I've made plans to go up and see Debbie next week and we're going to try and take a tiny road trip! Yesterday I wore a skirt and walked up to the pizza parlor with my dad for Italian Ices! And, yes, I did manage to wrestle my old rug out of my room. In fact, I HAVE PICTURES.

Aren't you excited? You are. I can tell. Bear in mind that I need a stronger contact lens prescription so some of these look a little blurry. The famous rug! ) And, well, I never can take just one picture, can I. So, here’s a bunch more of various things in my house, and also some rubber ducks. Rubber ducks! )

But, back to you guys! Tell me what you've been up to in my absence. SQUEE with me over the fact that tonight is NEW!! *flaility*
unamaga: (gold like the sunrise)
Today sucks already! And it's only nine-thirty in the morning, woohoo! Dear Helluary, feel free to stop sucking any time now, kthnxbai. Here's a list. Thing.

  1. My computer monitor has apparently blacked out. There's no light. I can see what's up on the screen if I squint really really hard and shine a light directly on it, but otherwise it's a total no-go. I have no idea what even happened, because I turned it off last night and it was still working perfectly fine. Gyah, technology!

  2. [Poll #935447]

  3. Does anyone have a recipe for pasta? Not, like, Alfredo or marinara or anything common like that, but fun. Marsala? A personal favorite? Lay it on me, babies! I'm makin' lunch today!

  4. So, Helluary is coming to a close - thank god. I made a fluffly little ficlet to celebrate this. With frosting on top. GROUP HUG, FLIST. :D

I actually got a full night of sleep! I'm so proud of myself! In honor of this momentous occasion, I am extending Spam Friday into Spam Weekend, because I can. So, you know what that means? That means I'm takin' requests. Any song you want that you think I might have, any CD, or even just a random smattering of moosic - whatever you want. Also, I'll throw in a drabble if you're so inclined. Gimme a lyric, a word or two, a pairing, anything at all, and I'll work a tiny drabblet out for ya.

ps, the mandroid and broyay shirts are buyable on base price if anyone really wanted them. woo.
