a list

Things wot I have learned today:

  1. I am still so emotionally invested in Sam and Dean, even though I like to pretend I'm not. I haven't been able to change the songs on my iPod since I got my new computer, since it's the only copy I have of all the old stuff that was on Elphaba before she kicked it, and so I still have tons of the music I listened to religiously that meant Sam&Dean to me. While writing in the Library today, I had it on shuffle and Brothers On a Hotel Bed came on, and I started sniffling. I really hope the finale tears my heart out in a good way - the kind of way that IMToD did - and not in an "oh, Eric Kripke, how do you get funding" way. I'm insanely worried.

  2. [livejournal.com profile] schneestern thinks I should make out with [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 at Shore Leave.

  3. Rereading an author's entire body of work is very satisfying. The past three days have seen me going through [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002's website, and can I just say that if you're new around here and haven't stumbled upon it yet, her and [livejournal.com profile] yin_again wrote wristband porn. I always forget, and then it hits me over the head like a very, very attractive plank of wood.

  4. Hot, humid weather makes me want to listen to the Juno Soundtrack. It's so...sunshine-y. If that's a word. Which it isn't, but whatever. Here it is for you, in case you haven't yet experienced its awesome.

    Mediafire link / Sendspace link

  5. August Rush is an incredibly awesome movie; you should all see it if you can. Robin Williams was fabulous, mostly because I would never, ever expect that kind of role from him, and Kerri Russel keeps amazing me lately with how absolutely beautiful she's become. Not that she wasn't pretty before, but when you see her on the screen with her cello in August Rush, it's just - wow. Stunning. The entire main cast stunned me, actually. Freddie Highmore is so young to be playing such a big part, but he pulled it off and left me madly in love with August.
unamaga: (stand by you)
A highly experimental drabblet for [livejournal.com profile] schneestern, who managed to take my crappy morning and turn it into a pretty good day. ♥ (Note: I have no idea if this thing even makes sense. It's kind of late. Woops.)

Nights on Atlantis are never black. ~200 words )
unamaga: (mr. bracket face)
First point: so many festivals of joy! [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius is having a tiny 'What Rodney and John are doing today' fest over here which I have happily committed fic for, [livejournal.com profile] yin_again is hosting a 'secret touch' fest here, and [livejournal.com profile] melagan is having a 'That Thing We Don't Talk or Hug About Meme' over here, which is great fun. *punches you in the arm fondly*

Second point: [livejournal.com profile] schneestern and I were chatting over skype today and somehow - I think maybe all of her giggling acted like alcohol - she convinced me that what the world really needs is a fic about John and Rodney and Teyla and Ronon meeting in Kindergarten, and John and Rodney being darling and innocent and in puppy love, shyly exchanging little Spiderman valentines with sticky fingerprints on them, and Rodney coming to school dressed as a tinfoil-covered astronaut for Halloween and getting made fun of and Ronon and Teyla and John jumping to his defense! And. Yeah. So maybe I squeaked a bit when we were talking about it, but you can't prove anything.

Really, though, the main point of this post is teddy bears.

unamaga: (my bad!)
Ahaha, Jules and I just got Gmail chat banned at my school library: Your network administrator has disabled Gmail's chat features for all users on the network. You won't be able to use chat in Gmail any time you're connected to the network on which you received the error message. Er, woops. Maybe we shouldn't have been talking about weird porn. Not worksafe! Crude language! )

Unrelatedly, why isn't it spring yet? Walking from the library to the subway today was so windy I ended up eating my own hair.
unamaga: (so not a morning person)
Oh dear fuck this took ages. Jules, I better get a really sexy kiss.

I'm separating the list into arbitrary categories that no one else will understand because it is easier for my poor brain to handle. Note: all of these fics are McShep unless otherwise marked, only some of them will have summaries with them, all full-AUs are labeled, asterisks are personal favorites, and, in advance, I apologize if any of the links lead you to a second part of a story; sometimes I bookmark them by accident, though I've tried to make sure all of these link to part one or the directory. If any links are wonky, or I've forgotten to label an AU, or any coding mysteriously develops kinks, let me know.

EDIT: All of these choices are highly subjective. This is by no means a full list of everything awesome in this fandom, and I don't claim that it is. These are just authors, fics, and artists that I consider greatest hits. If you disagree, please, go ahead and make your own! I'd love to see where we differ.

Big Fat Recs List of Awesome! )

a list!

  • Earlier today, I had a sudden epiphany, wherein I realized that someone on my flist was actually the same someone whose icon journal I have regularly fangirled from afar since joining SGA fandom, and that I have comment-threaded with her more than once. Wow do I feel like a lucky idiot! \o/

  • When any Jules and I interact - be it [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 or [livejournal.com profile] schneestern - the conversation always seems to end in absolute crack. We should probably stop talking for the sake of fandom, because just the other day, the two of them plotted to make me manip Rodney into a belly dancer (I was helpless to resist! Helpless! [livejournal.com profile] schneestern was physically there to tickle me into submission!). I'm afraid to actually put that one on the interwebs, which is saying something for me. And now this:

Mel: aahaaaahahah, i am so stuck on the idea of rodney shaking his ass to my humps
    Julie: ahah omg ME TOO
Julie: its pretty much my personal canon now lol
Mel: i feel so guilty listening to it, i always check to make sure the house is empty first, BUT GOD IT IS SO AMAZING TO IMAGINE
    Julie: IT REALLY IS
Julie: especially b/c i picture him in the shower, with his hair in a shampoo mohawk, singing into a bottle
    Mel: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
    Mel: OH RODNEY
Julie: and john catches him. of course
    Mel: OF COURSE
Mel: and he laughs himself down to the floor
Julie: MAH HUMPS ahahaha oh my god
Julie: should not amuse me so

  • Speaking of fic, someone needs to steer me kindly away from the computer. I have four word documents open: the Shrek AU (in which Rodney is a princess, cursed so that she turns into a man once the sun sets), the Stars of Track and Field sequel (meet Ronon!), tentative Lorne POV fic, and The One Where They Turn Into Stuffed Animals (see icon). How have I not been kicked out of fandom yet? No, really.

  • I'm putting together an "Essentials" recs post for [livejournal.com profile] schneestern, because a fair number my sentences this vacation started with the words, "You ever read that fic where..." and, a fair number of times, she hadn't. So, what do you consider an essential read in SGA fandom? Besides, you know, Written by the Victors. We all but jumped on her back when she told us she hadn't read it; I think she got the idea.

Title: Just Like We Do
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] unamaga and [livejournal.com profile] schneestern
Pairing: John Sheppard/Joe Flanigan
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: ~3,450 words
Notes: Anyone who has seen Jules and I interact knows that we have no shame, so I'm not offering any excuses for this. There are none. Also, there is really no plot; we just wanted Joe and John to have sex. Er, Happy December!

He cups his hand around the back of John's neck, mumbling, slow, slower, and guiding John into aching, long strokes, watching with something hot curling in his gut when the switch suddenly flips behind John's eyes and he gets it. )
unamaga: (i want to mess up my sheets with you)
My darling Jules, being of great wisdom and kindness, has started a love meme to combat the evils of Hellvember. My thread is here! Go love on everybody and get some sugar for yourself. ♥

ps, who here lives near nyc?
unamaga: (yes we can)
My apologies for the spam today, guys, but this one needs to go up.

Title: Persuasion
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: 850 words
Summary: John's always been good at getting Rodney to do what he wants.
Notes: For my darling [livejournal.com profile] schneestern, to make up for her shitty night. Pretty much just porn.

The door hasn’t even fully opened, and John already has Rodney backed against the wall, one knee slipping between Rodney’s thighs and grinding up against his cock. Rodney manages to whisper, “Oh my god,” hands falling to rest on John’s hips like he’s not sure if he wants to push or pull. )
unamaga: (avast matey!)
On the subject of public sex. )

So, on that note, drabble time! You all who've been around for a bit know the drill. The rest of you: gimme a few words, a song, a pairing, whatever you want in any fandom I've written in, and I'll give you a ficlet. Go!
unamaga: (like romeo and juliet in a way)
Dear Jules,

Right now, you are probably out celebrating your own awesomeness in the awesome city of Vienna. Just in case you maybe-kinda get online before the day's through, I wanna wish you a big, sappy Happy Birthday!

We still haven't quite figured out how you found me or why we started talking, but I can quite honestly say you've made my life better just by being around. You're the one of the sweetest, most honestly caring friends I've ever had - no matter what's got me down, you can always make me giggle like a loony toon with a few well-placed words or by sending me a candy manthong.

Not many people can keep up with me and my insane perversions, but you definitely can - and usually you encourage me to entirely new, perverted heights! There's nothing you're not willing to try at least once, you're open-minded and willing to listen to whatever I say about...pretty much anything, from political rants to philosophical views to nonsensical babblings at five in the morning. And on top of listening? You're always willing to contribute. Even if you don't exactly know what I'm talking about or you don't agree with me 100%, there isn't anything I can't talk to you about.

All of this is really woefully inadequate in describing how much you mean to me, and I suspect you know that, even though I've missed a few of my daily I Love Yous lately. You're just...you're the snail to my snake, and I adore you.

Love,
Mel

Title: Pretty Pretty Bunch
Pairing: John/Rodney
Rating: R
Wordcount: 570
Notes: So, it's not exactly the epic work of art I wanted to write you, Jules, but it's sex pollen! And I swear, that John/Rodney/Atlantis fic is totally going to happen one day; I love you that much. Quick beta by miss [livejournal.com profile] immoralilly. ♥

John reaches out anyway, feeling oddly drawn. “Aw, come on, Rodney. Where’s your sense of adventure?” )
unamaga: (itschurbutt?)
  • I got my acceptance letter from Brooklyn! I'm going back to college, baby, woot woot! I'll probably be complaining about my classes soon enough, but man it's gonna be good to have something to actually do again instead of just sitting home and rotting my brain. What should I take! Such options!

  • Yesterday, Jules and I were in a mood together - you know the kind where you want everything to be sort of honey-slow and dark and soft. So I sent her Black Coffee by Ella Fitzgerald and we both grooved to it for a while. Then she came up with this gorgeous, gorgeous image of Jared sitting at a piano after a long day with his suit jacket off, accompanying the song with single notes, and Jensen coming in with his tie undone and his shirt all rumpled, leaning up against the piano and Jared, whispering the words into Jared's ear. Sigh. I really like that image.

  • How many times do you think Dean and Sam have pulled off the interstate into an abandoned parking lot at three or four in the morning and rocked out to Bohemian Rhapsody? I bet Sam does all the high parts. Let me goooooo!

  • Does anyone have My Funny Valentine as sung by Chet Baker? I have it by pretty much every other person you can imagine, but I can't seem to find a download of him that doesn't require licensing. It's driving me absolutely insane, because I heard it on Last.FM and it was so lovely. Screw his trumpet playing, his voice is what's really swoon-worthy.

  • Who wants drabbles? Supernatural gen or slash, Real person gen or slash, Harry Potter MWPP, etc., etc. I'm alone in the house for the first time in days and ready to rumble! *cracks knuckles*
unamaga: (sam's not here right now)
My lovely [livejournal.com profile] schneestern asked her flist who they wanted to be today instead of themselves, and most people answered awesome things like "Anna who has a fabulous house and lots of books", except, y'know, more elaborate than that. But I? Am an odd duck. This is my answer:

I want to be an eccentric middle-aged man who wears a brown, lopsided top hat and has a pipe that he pretends he packs with tobacco, but which actually just blows bubbles. My name would be something long and exotic, like Eric, but everyone would just call me Bob.

My days would be spent blowing bubbles from my pipe as I strolled leisurely around my sprawling estate, playing golf with my imaginary friend, Clownard, inviting young, available men and women to stay for weeks at a time so that I may make matches of them, and fancifully arranging ice sculptures in the garden for my next picnic-gala.

So, stealing from Jules, who do you want to be today? Bonus points if you can somehow involve a potato masher.

Oh! And also. I think I've been tagged for this thing five times over, so, here are seven songs that I am currently into - and this time, I will keep it down to seven songs only, damnit.

  1. Stina Nordenstam - The World is Saved
  2. Tori Amos - Happiness is a Warm Gun
  3. Ella Fitzgerald - It Don't Mean a Thing
  4. Cat Power - He War
  5. Massive Attack - Inertia Creeps
  6. Billie Holiday - Loverman
  7. Iron & Wine - Teeth in the Grass
