these are a few of my favorite things
I am really, really horribly bad at feedback - I'm working on it, I promise - so if you see something recced of yours that I haven't left a comment on, I'm sorry for being a dumbass! This is my way of saying I loved it. :|
Also, I've updated the "Greatest Hits" post with a few more stories and a (very incomplete) list of awesome rec pages. Woot!
Counting, bysheldrake (Noel Fielding/Russel Brand, PG)
I said it couldn't be done, but I was so, so gloriously wrong. If you don't know who Noel and Russel are, you are missing out on a world of joy and you should immediately seek .avi help. If you do, read this, because it captures them so, so perfectly that I keep going back over it and cackling and pointing and yelling OH MY GOD YES THAT! over and over again."I'm makin' a flick-book out of your little message pad," says Noel, and holds it up. "See? This is Jeremy Paxman..."
"Oh, yeah, it is an' all."
"...And when you get to here, he's being slowly consumed by a giant fruit-bat, and then the fruit-bat explodes here, and then... oh, then I seem to have drawn a baboon."
The epic love of two cookies from different sides of the baking rack, a conversation betweenrain_dances and
minor_fifth
This is...not exactly a fic, but it's hysterical and guaranteed to make you snort water through your nose. Seriously, make sure you're not doing anything when you read this. Ahahahaaaaa.rain_dances: john would tell rodney he smells good
minor_fifth: OMG
minor_fifth: that's hot
minor_fifth: that's COOKIE hot
minor_fifth: I think rodney would awkwardly return the compliment
rain_dances: BUT JOHN UNLESS THEY PUT US IN THE FREEZER, OUR LOVE CAN ONLY LAST A FEW MONTHS. AND THAT'S IF THEY DON'T EAT US RIGHT AWAY. OR LEAVE US OUT ON THE COUNTER TO GO STALE.
minor_fifth: OH NOOOOOOOOOO
Hello, I Must Be Going, bystormheller (McKay/Sheppard, NC-17)
I love canon AUs. I love it when John sees something in Rodney that other people don't. I love it when there's an instant connection between the two of them. Oh man, did this story deliver it all. ♥Doc leaned in close to John, eyebrows raised and forehead crinkled. His expression had a pleading quality to it, yet there was nothing humble about it. It wasn’t as if Doc was begging John to accept him, to want him, but rather that he was beseeching John be smart enough to recognize what he was being offered. John was almost shocked to feel a surge of what could only be called affection, and started to reach out a hand, jerking it back and taking a sip of his beer instead.
Doc, looking terrified but resolute, said abruptly, "Listen, you seem to like me and you’re, you know, exceedingly hot, so could we just go home now?"
John choked on his drink.
Vuja De, byquasar273 (McKay/Sheppard, NC-17)
A really interesting plot concept pulled off fabulously, with a spot-on Rodney voice and a great look inside young!John's head. Major Outcast spoilers, obviously.John startled awake to a pounding on his door. "You better get downstairs, or Dad's gonna pop a gasket!" Dave shouted through the door.
John blinked around at his room, dazed and achingly hard. Damn, that one had been the most vivid yet. Bad enough when weird gay sex stuff was invading his dreams -- well, a lot of the dreams were about sex, but there were some that weren't -- but now it was starting to happen when he was awake. He glanced over the side of his bed. Yep, there was the book he'd been reading for his homework when that dream, or vision, or whatever it was, started. Maybe Ernest Hemingway was making him gay.
Margin of Error, bydogeared (McKay/Sheppard, PG)
Ooohh, this left me feeling warm and fuzzy and happy for a long time after I was done with it. The sweetest amnesia fic I've ever read. *happy little sigh*So things are normal, now, mostly, and he's fine, except for the occasional blip, like when he asks Teyla if he can feel the baby kick. He figures he can chalk up the funny, complicated expression on her face to hormones, or to the fact that she has something growing inside her, because she takes his hand in hers anyway and presses it against the warm, living skin of her belly, and John holds his breath.
Things feel better than normal, actually. Things feel right.

Somehow I missed this author when I got into SGA, and since I know a lot of people on my flist are kinda newbies around here too, I'm going to assume I wasn't alone; I have no idea how I managed to miss her, because she's a fabulous author, but that's neither here nor there. What it really all comes down to is: oh my god have you read Harvest Festival? Possibly the hottest, longest tease in the goddamn fictional world, and then on top of that there is a Very Happy Ending which left me sort of brain dead for a few hours. And, and, okay, Wolf In Sheep's Clothing is so amazing that I flailed my way through the entire thing. John and Rodney against the world! With lots of fighting and badassery and hot sex and ngafojlwkgmawfj;gawoflk so gooood! And, well, since I'm here...
Everything Ever Written Bysardonicsmiley (links to her McKay/Sheppard tag)
Most of you probably know this author, but for those of you who don't, you are missing out, and here's why: Sophomore Slump. Usually I stay far, far away from WIPs, but I just couldn't help myself. They're in superhero highschool! And it's plotty! And her John adores Rodney so palpably it makes my chest ache! There are four parts so far, and sardonicsmiley is insanely prolific so there's probably more on the way very, very soon. Can't Take The Sky is another WIP of hers that crosses SGA with Firefly (!!!!) and is so amazing I don't even have words, okay; No Place Like Home is a fic wherein The Wizard of Oz is done SGA-style and it somehow manages to not be an AU. Do I really need to tell you how awesome that is?
