in the bible, only angels have wings
Jun. 24th, 2006 07:00 amGod, this song. I just, I mean, wow. I'd forgotten how absolutely heart-breaking and beautiful and touching this song is, but, guys, guys--I can't decide whether to cry or smile or just listen in awe.
Jewel's voice is, wow, gorgeous, and the lyrics are so poetic; it's pain and quiet desperation and sadness and, and, and. I can't even be coherant about this song, it just affects me so much on such a deep level.
It feels like that one minute in your life when you are forever changed and you know you'll never be innocent enough to appreciate the sun warm on your face again or the sound of summer rain on gravel. It hurts and it hurts and it never stops hurting, but this song just makes it such a beautiful pain.
As though our flesh were hell.
Such an injustice, as children we are told
That from God we fell.
Where are my angels?
Where's my golden one?
Where is my hope
Now that my heroes have gone?
Some are being beaten,
Some are being born,
And some can't tell the difference anymore."
