My life story, let me show you it:

My first exposure to him was BttF. I was at my father's place, BttF 3 was on the TV, and I just fell madly in love with Marty. He was so heroic! And clever! And funny! And cute! And kind of short, but we could make it work! Really!

After that I kept my eyes open for anything with his name in the credits. I watched the reruns of Family Ties even though it was aired at a really inconvenient hour and I secretly thought the show sucked, I taped every single movie he'd ever been in that happened to be shown on TV (I watched For Love Or Money an unhealthy amount of times) and when I found Spin City I was ecstatic. I followed that show religiously, and when he left I cried like a little bitch.

I was a bit embarrassed about my crush, because no one my age seemed to share it, but at the same time I thought he was cooler than all the teenage heartthrobs combined. Heh. I remember finding an article about him, written right after his Parkinsons' became public knowledge, and I was really surprised to learn that he'd been a teen idol himself.

It's a good thing I wasn't media savvy as a teen, or I would undoubtedly have written really wretched RPF about him.
