The Great BAMBI?

Ahh, my childhood is on HBO! The Sandlot! I have a feeling that maybe this movie wasn't meant for little girls, especially the Wendy Peffercorn bits, but that didn't stop me from loving it with all of my might. (Especially the Wendy Peffercorn bits. Cough.) Ahaha, I failed so badly at being a little girl.

Phillips: We play on a real diamond, Porter. You ain't good enough to lick the dirt off our cleats.
Ham Porter: Watch it, jerk!
Phillips: Shut up, idiot!
Ham Porter: Moron!
Phillips: Scab eater!
Ham Porter: Butt sniffer!
Phillips: Pus licker!
Ham Porter: Fart smeller!
Bertram: [sniffs] Ahh.
Phillips: You eat dog crap for breakfast, geek!
Ham Porter: You mix your Wheaties with your mama's toe jam!
Sandlot Kids: Yeah!
Phillips: You bob for apples in the toilet! And you like it!
Ham Porter: You play ball like a giiirrrrrrrrl!
[entire group stands in shocked silence]
Phillips: What did you say?
Ham Porter: You heard me.
Phillips: Tomorrow. Noon, at our field. Be there, buffalo-butt breath.
Ham Porter: Count on it, pee-drinking crap-face!

Oh, the maturity. It almost LEAPS off the screen. I should probably be at least a little offended by all of it, but, god, it's just too ridiculous. And the doofusy faces they make! It's kind of beautiful, and I think Little Giants totally makes up for it. Icebox FTW! I am in such a happy place right now.

Man, I had such a crush on this kid. I remember sitting with my chin in my hands and just gazing besottedly at him all the way through this and the second Mighty Ducks movie. I feel kind of like a pervert rewatching it, but awww, he was so cute!

A few songs to remember by:
Booker T and The Mg's - Green Onions
Jay & The Americans - This Magic Moment
Ray Charles - America the Beautiful
The Champs - Tequila
The Surfaris - Wipe Out
The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Oh man--I remember seeing that film in the theatre. I LOVE it! I think I got it on tape somewhere. My brother and I tend to still randomly quote it :D

Wheeee! Music!

Actually, you know, in SPN "Folsom Prison Blues" they play "Green Onions" and my first thought when I heard that actually was "YAY! SANDLOT!" :D

EEE, I never noticed that! *flails*

I have such weird affection for that movie. I don't even like baseball!

Hahah! It's the shenanigans. THEY PULL YOU IN.

I adored this movie, but Little Giants was totally better.

It's kind of a toss up for me. I mean, this, Little Giants, Mighty Ducks, Stand By Me - they're all cornerstones!

I love The Big Green too, but it's just not as classic as Sandlot.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to shamefacedly prove your point here and ask: The Big Green?

Soccer version of all these other movies, featuring Squints and Ham from Sandlot and Alfalfa from Little Rascals.

Randomly jumping in here to ask: is The Big Green the movie where the losing coach had to kiss the goat, at the end?? Because if so, OMG, I USED TO WATCH THAT MOVIE ALL THE TIME.<333

I get them all mixed up, but I think it is!

Can I confess that I sometimes mutter, "You're killing me, Smalls!" to myself when people act stupid?

'Cause I might do that.

Thanks for the music! *downloads*

"You're killing me, Smalls!" is the go-to response of my camp staff when a counselor acts particularly stupid.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so versatile! Smalls can mean almost ANYTHING!

Nice stroll down memory lane! Though, any time I hear Tequila I think about the scene in TMNT. (Hopefully I haven't managed to entirely confuse my childhood movies in my head.) : )

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
TMNT? I don't remember Tequila in TMNT, but I've only ever seen that once or twice, and usually the only scenes that stick in my head from it involve pizza.

OMFG I LOVE THAT MOVIE SO MUCH. I was right there with you on being awful at being a little girl! I can't even tell you how many times I have seen that movie, and my brothers and I STILL say, "FOR. EH. VER," to each other and know just where it is from. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS SO AWESOME. ESPECIALLY THE PARTS WITH WENDY PEFFERCORN.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG YES YES YES!!! I had to give up on saying FOR. EH. VERRRR. because no one ever GOT it and then I would pout, but AOGAJWKFM! Clearly we are soul sisters, you and I. We even have the same shirt. I MEAN WOW.

OMG I LOVE THIS MOVIE HARDCORE. I have it on dvd...it will always be a classic. Oh man. [livejournal.com profile] teh_indy made some Sandlot icons a while back too. *sigh* GOOD TIMES.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
SUCH A CLASSIC! Some of those lines will never, ever get old. Also, fj;aogmawf, excuse me while I go stalk her journal for that post.

[identity profile] raiining.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Wait wait - who was he in Mighty Ducks?! We had part two on vhs and I've probably stil got it memorized :D

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)

i stumbled on this post really kind of randomly but i just had to say AWW! cos i so needed the ear to ear grin of nostalgia it provided. the sandlot was without a doubt my favorite movie when i was little and also failing at being a girl, heh. i swear, i probably still quote the damn thing on at least a weekly basis. ♥!
