There was going to be an accompanying drabble, but I started laughing and couldn't stop. Aliens are stealing Rodney's sheep! No one believes him! Except, of course, for the handsome, eccentrically-haired cop with a shady past who's assigned to Rodney's case. Cue sex in the back of a pick up truck during a stake out! (Someone who is not me clearly needs to write this.)

XD Oh, man, your ideas are a frickin' gold mine. If I was anywhere near decent at writing McShep I would attempt, but I'm laughing so hard I can barely type.

And, yeah, that's what I love about Rodney, and in a roundabout way, why I liked Kavanagh. To me, Kavanagh was always what Rodney would be if he didn't have that humanity, that sincerity, and most importantly, those around him that return the affection. I think if Rodney was left truly alone, he'd eventually become a lot like Kavanagh. Of course, John is never going to let that happen, no sirree, not on his watch.

And it's also part of the reason why I feel so bad for Kavanagh. He doesn't have anyone, nor do I think he ever did.

I think the main difference between Rodney and Kavanagh is that Rodney's only the arrogant bastard he is because he knows he can back it up, and it annoys him when people do something wrong which he could have done right back in sixth grade. Kavanagh, on the other hand, comes off as someone who's reaching a little higher than his means, you know? I'm not saying that he's a bad guy for doing that, because he's obviously not, but I don't think that he's cut from the same mold as Rodney. I do agree that if left to his own devices, Rodney would probably become at least as crotchety as Kavanagh's been shown to be, but I think that it would be much harder for Rodney to be left alone, you know? He'd have to work at it, since he has such a magnetic take-charge personality; it draws people to him, even again their will.
