PSA: viewing skins

I don't know if this is going around, or if Julie and I are just being targeted because we're secret terr'ists, but if your xcolibur or dystopia view of LJ has mysteriously been replaced with vertigo, there is a sneaky back door you can take to get your beloved viewing option back.

Append &usescheme=xcolibur or &usescheme=dystopia to the end of your URL and it sort of tricks LJ into believing you already have that option checked. Make sure you save, and voila: insta-relief! I've tried it for both dystopia and xcolibur, and there's been no sign of reverting back to vertigo yet, even after some off-site page hopping. I live in hope. *crosses fingers*

Has anyone heard anything about LJ getting rid of these skins altogether? None of the news comms I poked around in have said anything about it, so it might just be a bug - please let it just be a bug!

I think it's a bug. I know for a long time they weren't showing up on the options and now they're back on the options (or they were when I checked two weeks ago, and not just the sekrit options I had bookmarked, because they re-did the settings thingie and that bookmark no longer works). My dystopia has been working fine and steadily over the past months, so I think you had a bug!

My Dystopia was working fine, too, and then suddenly, when I restarted Firefox last night, it had disappeared. I'm thinking it's a bug too but... with LJ, you never know.

It was a very strange thing for a hiccup, you know? Because both Julie and I had the option on our other journals to view in that style, but not on our main journals. LJ baffles me.

It looks like they completely removed the graphics for dystopia. I have just blank space where the graphics for it used to be :(
