I bring songs!
Okay, so, I uploaded a whole butt-load of music to yousendit 'cause that's how I roll. And, now, you get to the reap the benefits. Drink and be merry.
1. Jewel - Pieces of You
This song...wow. It is so powerful because of its painful, and sometimes necessary, honesty.
" She's an ugly girl / Does it make you want to kill her? /
She's an ugly girl / Do you want to kick in her face? /
She's an ugly girl / She doesn't pose a threat /
She's an ugly girl / Does that make you feel safe?"
2. Jewel - Little Sister
When I was little and I'd first gotten my hands on Jewel, this song would hit me hard every time I heard it. I'm not sure why it was so powerful then; maybe because I was and am a little sister, and sometimes it feels a little too real.
3. Jewel - Painters
God, this is more poetry than song. It's heart-wrenching, but in a way where you never want it to end. I wish I could paint myself a lovelier world.
4. Jewel - Adrian
I used to cry whenever this song would come up on shuffle because, Jesus, Jewel, you know how to pluck at my heart strings--it's so quiet and understated and painful I can't half take it.
5. Jewel - Daddy
Oh, ouch. There's really nothing else to say about this one but, damn.
"'Cause I'm your creation / I'm your love, Daddy /
Grew up to be and do all those sick things / You said that I would do /
Well last night / I saw you sneak out your window /
With your white hood, Daddy / What's that say about you?"
6. Cat Power - Hate
This song is smokey and slow and it hits you right where you live, right in the gut. It provokes a kind of visceral reaction--it's erotic and sad and you can't help but fall a little bit in love with Cat's voice.
7. Mirah - Texas
This song is pretty much the wildcard in my picks so far. It's not heavy or very emotional; really, it's just a bit of fun. It has a sort of addictive sound to it--a light twang, simple guitar background--and, as always, Mirah's voice is sweet and lovely.
"Texas is a place where cowboys /
Wear big hats and make lots of noise /
Get along doggy / Yippy-tie-tie-oh /
Curious country / When can we go?"
8. Lorna Vallings - Taste
Mm, this song is delicious. Its guitar and voice-driven sound is erotic as anything, like a slow, exotic seduction on a heat-filled afternoon. Yum.
"I would pray to be the rain that runs over and in your skin / With no consequence /
To be the liquid in your glass that falls around your lips and mouth / Swallow me /
If I could have just a breath of you / Would you, could you infect me? /
If I could have just a view of you / Would you leave your door ajar? /
If I could have just a part of you / Let me drink of your tides."

"My little sister is a Zombie in a body / With no soul /
A role she has learned to play / In a world today /
Where nothing else matters / But it matters /
We gotta start feeding our souls."

3. Jewel - Painters
God, this is more poetry than song. It's heart-wrenching, but in a way where you never want it to end. I wish I could paint myself a lovelier world.
"He put water-colored roses in her hair / He said /
'Love, I love you, I want to give you mountains, the sunshine /
The sunset too / I just want to give you everything /
As beautiful as you are to me' / 'Cause they were painters /
And they were painting themselves / A lovely world."

4. Jewel - Adrian
I used to cry whenever this song would come up on shuffle because, Jesus, Jewel, you know how to pluck at my heart strings--it's so quiet and understated and painful I can't half take it.
"She sat by his side / Watched the years fly by /
He looked so fragile / He looked so small /
She wondered why he was still alive at all /
Everyone in town had that I'm-so-sorry look /
They talked in a whispered hush / Said 'I'd turn the machines off.'"

"Everyone loves the fun / Everyone comes by /
In the wind I crunch / I want to die /
They can give me pills / Or let me drink my fill /
The heart wants to explode / Far away where nobody knows."
