Okay. Who here knows how to sew? Come on, speak up. There has to be someone. I will owe you my STILL BEATING HEART. Or, y'know, a present of some kind.

I know, not the best sketch ever, but, well, it gets the point across. I really, really, REALLY want to make that outfit, but I don't even know one end of a needle from the other until I poke myself with it. And then I get blood all over. It's just not good. All I know of sewing comes from that one scene in Cinderella where the mice are making her dress for the ball, which, hey, might not be entirely useful as I am neither six inches tall nor do I have a lot of mousey friends.

Anyway. Can anyone point me in a direction or give me some tips? I don't want to be, like, the next Project Runway contestant, I just want to make my own clothes fit right. Child-bearing hips, people--apparently the clothing industry does NOT like them. :(

PS OMG YES I WILL HAVE THE CW!!! *EXCITED FACE*

Eh. My Grandmother can sew (randomly, she made my prom dress and it was gorgeous) but the one time I had to make a dress for a class in high school. Well. It was horrible. One sleeve was so big it wouldn't stay on my shoulder and the other was to small. Plus the hem was just. My teacher laughed when she saw it. Lucky for me she graded on effort because I would have failed. But I kicked ass on the interior decorating part.

I watched that CW thing last night after 7th Heaven only I missed the first part of it and it makes me cry! DX But I'm all excited! A week from Thursday! *glee*

Good luck with the making of clothes. I really like the top, yo. The way it curves down? Sexy.

I missed the thing that was on!! What was it about?! I only found out I had CW ridiculously early this morning! OH NOES.

*sexes you up wearing the imaginary top*

bwahah, get it? it's invisible. oh, i chuckle.

[identity profile] undecipherable.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I've known about the CW because it's going to be the same channel as the WB here. Which I'm glad for because I'm unbelievable lazy and would hate to have to hunt for it. Which I would make my mom do anyway.

*stuffs dollar bills down your top*

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
hey, i'm not that kind of girl, baby. what i do, i do for free. *lick*

I know how to sew but I'm not the neatest person in the world so possibly not the sort of person one could learn much off :0P

(Although you so should have come to school last year when it was so hot in the classroom we had to go outside, and I taught the kids sewing under the big oak trees and it was all very lovely and time-wastery. Then you could have learnt :0P)

But. Probably I'd say a sewing machine for that malarkey? Which I have no idea how to operate. Although we do have one, somewhere...

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sewing machines scare me. They're all big and prone to going REALLY FAST and they can hurt you. BADLY. *childhood trama*

And even though you're sloppy, do you know how I would go about measuring out the fabrics?

[identity profile] polyspaston.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Errrr....no. No idea. Have you got some sort of sewing...shop, nearby? Middle-aged women in sewing shops are the ones you want :0P I have a vendetta against middle-aged women in general BUT I do believe they can be helpful when working with fabrics.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. I probably do? Maybe I can ask my aunt, who lives a few towns over. She and I can go harass some old ladies.

[identity profile] pushingyouaway.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
although my sewing skills are null and void, i dig the design bunches. i bet it would look hot on =)

and no, the clothing industry doesn't dig child bearing hips. the only advice i can offer is to make sure that you have all of the measurements correct. the closer the fit, the better the look *nod*

and i missed that whole cw thingingum last night that everyone is raving about. wah. oh well.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
*does a shimmy for your enjoyment* Just because you're awesome.

That's the thing, though. I don't really know how to measure the fabrics and do the whole cutting them thing. I'm horrible at juding stuff like that, and I'm the kind of person who would go through all the trouble of sewing it up and then realize I need another two inches around the waist for it to fit. :(

I missed the thing on the CW, too! I only just found the channel carrying their programs at like 1AM. We can wallow in our miss-age together!

[identity profile] pushingyouaway.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
yay for corsets!

*eyes widen and smiles* thank you! that's...one person that loves me today. yay!

i'm sure you could find some type of pattern to work from...? they have all kinds of on-line patterns, methinks... just find one and roll with it (perhaps?)

*wallows with you* le sigh. i'll be pregaming whilst i watch, but hey, at least i'll be watching *shrugs*

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
One person that loves you a WHOLE BUNCH, baby. *kissy face* Here, I write you a poem.

Dear Sweet Thang:

You are awesome,
You are lovely,
You make me feel
Sort of wobbly.
In the knees, that is.

You are fantastic,
You are sexy,
You make me feel
Sort of tingly.
In the girl parts, that is.

Love,
Mel
