old faithful
Have you ever been unsatisfied by exhaustion? Like you're physically ready to drop, and your mind is like WAIT, she might update at ANY MINUTE - CONSTANT VIGILANCE! Maybe that's just a me thing. I'll explain.
I've spent the entire day re-reading everything
mistful has ever written, which means HARRY POTTER. I haven't read Harry Potter fic in...well, since I found SPN, pretty much. And I still don't really have an urge to go looking for more recent fic, but oh, Underwater Light. Oh! Baby Mel's first HP slash! I need a tissue, or maybe some smelling salts. I feel faint. And you know how sometimes you go back and read some things you used to find incredible or amazing and they sort of leave you going, "Oh my. How was I so misguided in my youth? Did I find this story attractive? Was I really so blind?" NOT SO with this one. I was enthralled all over again, even though I've probably read the entire fic fifty bazillion times through already.
Then, after I'd finished that 22 chapter ORGY OF WORDS, I trampled on to read all her one-shots, and then dropped in again on Drop Dead Gorgeous. Which. Ok, if you have ever had any interest in H/D in your life, you need to read this. The whole 'Harry's a Veela' thing has been done, I know it has, but never by Maya, and never with such delightful results.
You can't see my face right now, but know that it is a face of GLEEFUL GLEE. Not only are the characters gorgeously done and highly developed - as per normal Maya fic - but the entire thing is layered and full of hysterical, painful, lovely depth. I've never read fic by any other author that can go so quickly from pee-your-pants funny to heart rending, human realization. I just...I think the biggest compliment I can really give Maya's fic in general is this: when you're reading it, you don't even remember grammar or mechanics or even the fact that you have socks on. You come upon the 'Reply to this post' link and it's like slamming back into your own body.
And I realize I'm gushing and that this post is entirely too long, so I'll shut up now. Mostly. GO READ! While I catch up on comments. *quails*

“Even You-Know-Who himself, we suspect, no sooner set eyes on Lily than he knew he must have her as his own. That was why he offered her the chance to step aside, that night in Godric’s Hollow. His desire to carry your mother off to a sweet sugar palace of carnality was, it seems, his downfall.”
Slughorn nodded almost sadly to himself, as if Voldemort was more to be pitied than blamed.
“Sweet sugar - Urgh,” Harry said. “Urgh.”
“We have investigated this thoroughly, Harry,” Slughorn assured him. “I went to visit your relatives, who I understand you have not seen in six years-”
“Dudley is not part Veela,” Harry said flatly. That could not be, or surely the world would crumble.
“A most personable young man,” Slughorn said. “What a physique! But of course, the Veela blood was even more evident in your Aunt Petunia. She has the blond hair and swanlike neck of the Veela, I never saw a Muggle with such a strong strain of Veela blood in them. Your Uncle Vernon is a lucky man. The Veela, of course, can sometimes be a little rough in the marital bed, but with their wild ministrations comes unimaginable ecstasy-”
Malfoy howled laughing. “Stop it,” he said, and Harry heard him pounding the floor with his fists. “I can’t take it. It’s too funny. I may soil myself.”

ANYWAY. OMGZ I love Maya, have you read Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing Rat...? because seriously... I pee myself with laughter EVERY SINGLE TIME I read it... and I printed it out like 4 years ago and I read it every so often... sometimes a couple of times a month. That's how good it is.
Underwater Light. Oh man. That fic killed me. It twisted so FUCKING HARD... I never even guessed the traitor. She owns me.
Plus, she's pretty much the funniest, most random person on the planet.
