Jules: DO YOU WRITE POEMS?
Mel: ....i used to

An Ode to Beds in Three Movements
-July 6, 2006

Movement I
O, best beloved!
You shine in my mind
Like the brightest of stars—
Perhaps a red giant!

O, best beloved bed!
You are so squishy
Like the softest of roasted marshmallows—
Gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside!

O, my bed, O, my bed!
How I wish to be with you
And feel your loving embrace!

Movement II
Sheets—
Four-hundred count Egyptian—
How I long.

Pillows—
Feather down and well used—
How I wish.

Mattress—
Firm yet with good yield—
How I pine.

Bed—
Horizontal and comfortable—
How I yearn.

Movement III
Even a lover’s embrace
Cannot compare to yours.
Even a cup of hot cocoa
Cannot replicate your warmth.
Oh my bed, you are my love.

In my absence, dearest,
Do not rid yourself of my
Body-shaped indent,
For soon I will be with you again.

I feel this is sufficiently apt considering I got two and a half hours of sleep last night. SO TELL ME, who else here secretly used to write poems? Don't be shy, we're all friends.

I DID. In high school. During study hall. They were god-awful and emo.

They will also never see the light of day AGAIN. lol

HAHAH! Were they about how no one understands? I wrote a bunch of those. OH TEEN YEARS.

YES! And also about my never-ending cycle of breaking up/getting back together with my high school sweetheart. HEE.

When I was in seventh grade I met a boy and instantly developed a massive crush on him, but he started going out with another girl and I wrote depressing poems about how much prettier she was than me. They had a complex rhyme scheme and everything.

The best part about your poem, however, is the combination it makes with your icon. Because Rodney McKay, were he the secret poem-writing type (and I'm absolutely sure he is) could very easily have written this poem.

Yes! There were always complex rhyme schemes when emo was involved! No wonder Emily Dickinson is a poetic bombshell.

HAHAH!!! Especially the first movement. Comparing a bed to a gooey marshmallow is definitely Rodney's style.

(I feel slightly less bitter about the poem now because the girl was featured in a Jimmy Eat World video and has a modeling career on the side, so.)

And of course can you imagine how jealous John would be if he found out Rodney had a bed worth writing poems about?

(oh, oh my. O.O)

God yes! "You never write me poetry, McKay. Where's the romance?"

EDIT: AHAH. i just got what you actually meant now, with john being jealous OF the bed and wanting it for himself and. uh. woops.

It works both ways! Rodney should definitely write poems about John! I just love the fanon that everyone in Atlantis has a comfortable bed except Sheppard.

That is the most beautiful thing I have ever read! *sheds a single tear*

Poetry! I like poetry! I had to write a lot of it during college (par for the course when the Writing Dept. only has two professors and both are poets. *le sigh*).

I really like yours. The first movement is very funny, the second original, and the third is so true! Awesome!

I still write poetry, but not very often anymore. I find it so much more difficult than fiction, and a whole mess more frustrating. But I did just post some of my favorite ones that I'd written during college here (http://saekokato.livejournal.com/142263.html)! Heh.

I used to write a lot of poetry. I still occasionally do when I feel very melodramatic and just for a few hours the world only circles around me. Also, my poetry is always bad. ALWAYS. It's kind of a theme.

Oh, yes. I used to write frequently. I still do on occasion, mostly poem/songs. And I'm brave enough to link to them.
