a list!

  • Earlier today, I had a sudden epiphany, wherein I realized that someone on my flist was actually the same someone whose icon journal I have regularly fangirled from afar since joining SGA fandom, and that I have comment-threaded with her more than once. Wow do I feel like a lucky idiot! \o/

  • When any Jules and I interact - be it [livejournal.com profile] kashmir1 or [livejournal.com profile] schneestern - the conversation always seems to end in absolute crack. We should probably stop talking for the sake of fandom, because just the other day, the two of them plotted to make me manip Rodney into a belly dancer (I was helpless to resist! Helpless! [livejournal.com profile] schneestern was physically there to tickle me into submission!). I'm afraid to actually put that one on the interwebs, which is saying something for me. And now this:

Mel: aahaaaahahah, i am so stuck on the idea of rodney shaking his ass to my humps
    Julie: ahah omg ME TOO
Julie: its pretty much my personal canon now lol
Mel: i feel so guilty listening to it, i always check to make sure the house is empty first, BUT GOD IT IS SO AMAZING TO IMAGINE
    Julie: IT REALLY IS
Julie: especially b/c i picture him in the shower, with his hair in a shampoo mohawk, singing into a bottle
    Mel: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
    Mel: OH RODNEY
Julie: and john catches him. of course
    Mel: OF COURSE
Mel: and he laughs himself down to the floor
Julie: MAH HUMPS ahahaha oh my god
Julie: should not amuse me so

  • Speaking of fic, someone needs to steer me kindly away from the computer. I have four word documents open: the Shrek AU (in which Rodney is a princess, cursed so that she turns into a man once the sun sets), the Stars of Track and Field sequel (meet Ronon!), tentative Lorne POV fic, and The One Where They Turn Into Stuffed Animals (see icon). How have I not been kicked out of fandom yet? No, really.

  • I'm putting together an "Essentials" recs post for [livejournal.com profile] schneestern, because a fair number my sentences this vacation started with the words, "You ever read that fic where..." and, a fair number of times, she hadn't. So, what do you consider an essential read in SGA fandom? Besides, you know, Written by the Victors. We all but jumped on her back when she told us she hadn't read it; I think she got the idea.

Hey, even I know what Written By The Victors is. Haven't read it because I don't read SGA fic but, I've HEARD about it at least and I even know who wrote it :-p

How have I not been kicked out of fandom yet? No, really.

BECAUSE IF SOMEONE TRIED I WOULD CRY.

*cough* So, these aus will see light of day, yes?

I have no links but:

Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead by Ces

Kid A by Ces

Okay, anything by Ces

A Beautiful Lifetime Event by Astolat (okay, everything of hers too)

Um. http://yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/000086.html Thicker Than Water.

There's more. gotta be.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It is EPIC. I am so not surprised that it transcends fandomly barriers. <3

(HI THERE YOU! *smooch*)

I love how in SGA there aren't stories that you need to read, really, there are authors, and people regularly admit to having cravings and going back to devour the entire author's website whole. *heart grows three sizes*
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. Okay, that is so much easier to do because I can do it in my head:

Anything by Ces, Astolat, Devildoll, giddygeek, seperis, beadattitude, amireal, yin-again, chopchica, helenish (although she's a little darker/more distant than i can handle) Auburn or whatever her name is, who I don't read because oh my god ANGST but she's good, eretria, ISEMENTRUTH who does not get a lot of people reading and totally should, Julad, ladyflowdi, applep1. Tx_tart!! Nakedwesley and synecdochic's Freedom (god, sob!) and Xanphibian and.

Basically, all the SGA people on my flist. Huh.

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love you guys *because* of your crack. Plz never for to change!

And if I had to pick just *one* story? I would have to say that Bell Curve (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/bellcurve/bellcurve.html) (and it's sequels) is the one that I would make sure everyone read.

But if you asked me again in ten minutes, it would be something by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon or Ses or, you know, Bootylicious. ;)

*has not read "Written For The Victors" yet* *runs to hide*

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT LIST MAKES ME SO HAPPY IN MY SOUL.

(oh, even mentioning freedom hurts a little.)

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW!

I am not emotionally ready!!
ext_1720: two kittens with a heart between them (Default)

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But I missed so many people! Because there are TOO MANY AWESOME PEOPLE!!

And I'd add your name to that list, except I'm pretty sure she's read all of yours. Thankfully :)

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
BUT. BUT.

it's so good. :c

[identity profile] ladycat777.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*totally butts in*

There is no emotional readiness needed. You need a good ten hours to read it, but no no emotional readiness. Not like Freedom where yes, there needed to be zen moments of preparation. Go, read!

Also, how could I have forgotten CATE? and PRU?

This fandom has freaking fantastic writers.

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I know. I kind of want to re-watch the whole series again before I read it. I know! I AM WEIRD!

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Well, people keep telling me that. But I kind of need to be emotionally ready for awesomeness too.

The worst part is, I stumbled upon "Freedom" sort of accidentally and had no idea what I was reading but couldn't make myself stop and then there was the sobbing. Oh, the sobbing.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, i can understand that. but you still have way better control than i did; i plowed through that thing in four and a half hours without stopping to blink.

I admittedly cry at the drop of a hat. Tampax commercials can, have, and will make me cry (I don't know, I really don't and wish I did). I watched Steel Magnolias for the first time last weekend and sobbed so loud I terrified the dog in the room with me.

Freedom made me bawl like a baby. but god, god god it's good.

Go read Written. The more you dither the longer it'll be and really: it's Ces. (and then go listen to the pod cast which is a whole nother world of fantastic)

Well, the authors I love (would recommend anything that they write) include:

[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon ("A Farm in Iowa" AU especially)
and her partners in crime [livejournal.com profile] tx_tart, [livejournal.com profile] dogeared, and [livejournal.com profile] aesc for the Nantucket AU [livejournal.com profile] wagoneer
[livejournal.com profile] seperis ("Story of a Girl" in particular)
[livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed ("Unidentified" is KILLER.)
[livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's collection here. ("Bell Curve" -- wow.)
[livejournal.com profile] synecdochic and [livejournal.com profile] ivorygates (though they write mostly in SG-1, still fabulous reading nonetheless)

The massive story of RPS-meets-SGA in [livejournal.com profile] fic_of_doom

OK, I seem to have an AU thing. But still!

Elsewise, I would LOVE to read another "Stars of Track and Field" installment.

Man, I'm slow. I take forever to construct my list, and you guys go and scoop me. *sigh*

Still, I stand by my entries. *firm nod*

[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, in this fandom, you can write whatever crack you want. They'll never kick you out.

[identity profile] hebrew-hernia.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, Iowa and Nantucket, to start. Really, I think it's easier to rec authors. [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza (my faves are Benched and 3 Lovers, and obviously Victors, and Denver, holy shit she has written a lot), [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, [livejournal.com profile] resonant8, [livejournal.com profile] aesc, [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse. A lot of them have websites linked to their journals. A Supermarket in California (http://taffetablue.livejournal.com/10542.html). Broadcast Signal (http://seperis.livejournal.com/378157.html). How We Operate (http://ladyflowdi.livejournal.com/390724.html), which is OT4. 39+ (http://community.livejournal.com/fire_fiction/10507.html), which is part of that series where the aliens are like "you have to kiss 40 times" and McKay and Sheppard, like, make out, and then the aliens just kiss on the cheeks (the rest are linked on that page). the one where aliens make Rodney do it with everyone but John (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/36512.html), which is actually the title of the story.

Oh, AND: what's the one with the make-out pollen? And the one where John is squeamish about rimming, and then they go to the planet with the rimming temple? I just read that one a couple of days ago, but I think I forgot to memory it. Damn.

AND probably everything that won a McKay/Sheppard Award (http://www.mcshepawards.com/page.php?59), although I can't claim to have read all of them.

Also, never stop writing the crack. EVER. SPEAKING OF WHICH: The one where they get captured and Rodney pushes John back through the gate but doesn't go, because the aliens plugged him into the chair, and put a thing in him that would blow up if he went through the gate!

I may actually have started writing a little McShep ficlet the other night, but I'm afraid to try to finish it, let alone post it. There's too much amazing fic in this fandom. I'm scared.

*CACKLES*

I don't think you can get thrown out of SGA fandom for crack. Really. ;)

AAAAAAAAAND. I can't think of any other fics besides the Farm In Iowa AU, Written By The Victors, Freedom's Just Another Word and the Bell Curve 'Verse.

[identity profile] gaffsie.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The one where they get captured and Rodney pushes John back through the gate but doesn't go, because the aliens plugged him into the chair, and put a thing in him that would blow up if he went through the gate!

Benched (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Benched.html), right? A total must.

[identity profile] pushingyouaway.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
oh miss mel. you so crazy *snuggles*

your crack is the best =D

*cake*

[identity profile] gaffsie.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't forget [livejournal.com profile] toft_froggy! Second Skin (http://toft-froggy.livejournal.com/162512.html) is the only transvestite story you'll ever need. So good. Not to mention String Theory (http://toft-froggy.livejournal.com/190025.html), the seriously amazing orchestra AU.

Oh oh oh, and check out [livejournal.com profile] frostfire_17 and [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone and [livejournal.com profile] eleveninches and [livejournal.com profile] ltlj and, and - *passes out*

SGA really has an extraordinary large amount of talented people writing for it. :)

[identity profile] hebrew-hernia.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
RIGHT.

But I mentioned Benched, and what I was really think of was the one where the Genii plant sarin in the conference room, but only Elizabeth gets it, and then Rodney's in charge and they have lots of sex. Also, there are jail cells. TOO BAD I CAN'T FIND IT. TRANSCENDENTAL (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/transcendental.html) by shalott. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW.

ALSO the one where John finds RANDI (remote access neural demand interface? something like that) which lets him MAKE PEOPLE COME WITH HIS MIND, and then they use it to stop the Replicators. MAN I HOPE MEL IS GETTING ALL OF THIS. And is going to include these descriptions in her recs post so I can find them. Haha.
